But what deadly path must be trave to claim the Temporal Device known as...The Timex!Garrison Kane is trapped in Cable's time and is waiting on his return. Kane learns about the death of Cable's wife, as well as the mind-washing of his son, Tyler. Kane's interest in Cable alerts the wrong crowd and Kane is attacked twice, once alone and once with Cable's clan. Cable appears. Things get dicey when Cable announces that the clan needs to use and then destroy the latest Tinex (a time travel device); but the one-man army, Sinsear, seems like a likely foe to stop any of their plans, as well as stop the clan from ever existing.SynopsisIn the future, Garrison Kane watches Cable's Clan Chosen fight the New Canaanites on an empdisc, a device that not only records events but also their emotional impacts. Cable calls out to his friends Silo and Tetherblood to keep the attack away from their base - Cable's wife is there. He's assured that the base will be fine; his son Tyler is there to protect everyone. Cable grows concerned that the New Canaanite attack seems far more aggressive than usual; their tactics seem a little more intense. Just then, a bomb is dropped on the base camp. Fearing the worst, Cable runs to the base. He is stopped by teammate Boak. Cable refuses to hear that there is nothing that he can do and he charges on until his finds his wife's body. He lifts her up and she manages to ask what has happened with their son Tyler. Cable lies and says that he's alright. She passes in his arms and Cable asks where Tyler's body is. Boak informs him that Tyler's body is missing. The Clan Chosen had been mistaken about the attack. It wasn't the New Canaanites, it was Stryfe. And, by all appearances, Tyler was dead - he was taken!Once the disc is finished playing, Kane returns it to the library circulation desk. The librarian comments on Kane's curious interest in the Clan Chosen. Kane simply remarks that he's writing a book on them and perhaps he'll be back the next day. As Kane walks out of the library the librarian makes a discreet call with Kane's location. Outside, Kane can't help but thinking that he still needs to get used to this time period even though he's been stuck there for a year. He ponders how society ended up as it has with Apocalypse winning a one hundred year war. Wondering when Cable will return for him, Kane is suddenly jumped by some New Canaanite Rowdies. Thinking he's some history nerd, they look to rough Kane up for looking into the Clan Chosen's files. Kane has no problem giving these guys his full attention. He pops out his new machinery - limbs made from synthetic-organic liquid metal. He easily defeats the goons and gets away before he draws too much attention to himself.Kane had already drawn too much attention to himself. General Haight and his men watch the video of the Rowdies' attack and Kane's handy whooping. It is discovered that Kane is a grey-screen, someone without origin. A time traveler. General Haight wants information on Kane fast and he hires the Flatliners to do the dirty work. They are dispatched immediately so that the plans with Sinsear will go unhindered.Garrison Kane arrives at the Clan Chosen base he's been staying in for the past year. Cable's old teammates welcome him back, though Dawnsilk is peeved that he may have led enemies to their door. Kane, ever-confident, assures them all that he shook any tales he may have acquired. Tetherblood wonders if all the archive raiding that Kane is doing is getting the attention of the wrong people. Regardless, Kane wants to learn about Cable's son, Tyler. Boak begins playing the last bit of data he has on Tyler. After Tyler's abduction, Cable led his Clan Chosen into some Lake Michigan venting tunnels where he thought Stryfe may have some operations. For sure, they are attacked by Stryfe's forces. The greatest surprise, however, is when Cable finds that Tyler has now joined Stryfe's side and has taken Dawnsilk hostage. He'd linked with her mind to sabotage any escape Cable may have intended. Stryfe explains that his lackey Frisco has manipulated Tyler's mind. Seeing no hope for his son, Cable chooses to act and shoots Tyler, freeing Dawnsilk and causing her mild brain damage. Cable then teleports his team away while Stryfe laughs at his latest triumph. With such bleak information, Kane sees a new side of Cable. He wonders when Cable will return when the Clan Chosen hideaway is raided by the Flatliners. The mercenaries explain that Kane leaves a traceable ceph-wave. A fight starts and Dawnsilk once again finds herself used as leverage. A Flatliner has a knife to her throat. The fight looks to be over when a mysterious shot takes the Flatliner out, freeing Dawnsilk. Everyone turns around and finds Cable. No celebration can be had because Cable tells everyone to run. They know to trust him and, as they exit the building, the dead Flatliner's suit explodes. Once everyone has had the chance to settle down, Cable informs them all that they are headed up to Niagara Falls to destroy the latest New Canaanite Tinex. In Africa, General Haight walks through a battle field of dead bodies. He approaches the one man responsible for the death. A wounded soldier tries to reason that the man is a monster. The one-man army crushes the soldier's face with his boot. General Haight congratulates Sinsear on a successful test run. Sinsear is pleased with the praise, especially since it prepares him to kill all the New Canaanites. General Haight is unmoved; he has a better idea - revenge on the Clan Chosen for giving Sinsear his ghastly appearance. Sinsear likes this idea.In the old X-Force base in the Adirondack Mountains, Cable preps his team for an attack on the Tinex at Niagara Falls. Hope is doubtful and Cable tells her to get over their little tiff. (Hope is Cable's sister-in-law, the sister of Cable's dead wife.) Kane asks what they are breaking in to and learns that the Tinex is Niagara Falls. The mission is important because it appears that the New Canaanites are planning to send someone back in time to assure their dominance in the future-present. Kane wonders who they'd need to kill to maintain their power. Cable knows. It's Cable they are after.Notes:Embossed cover.

Grade: VF/NM

Note: Stock Image
Issue Number: 2
Release Date: 1993-06-30
Writer:
Artist:

Cable has made it to the past. But not all is as it seems...In the future, Cable and the Clan Chosen infiltrate the Tinex at Niagara Falls. Tensions arise when Boak is sacrificed, but Cable and Garrison Kane travel back to the past. Sinsear has also traveled back in time to eliminate the chance of the Clan Chosen ever rising, as well as eliminating a former time-traveler gone rogue, Tolliver.SynopsisA sewage transporter arrives at the New Canaanites facility at the Niagara Falls, the hidden location of the latest Tinex time travel device. Guards step out to greet it upon landing when some canisters roll out and incapacitate most of them. The Clan Chosen, lead by Cable, steps from the craft and quickly take out any other guards. Boak and Eleven break into the building through its computer system. The team walks in to the disdain of Hope - she'd have rather the team blow up the entire operation instead of risking their lives openly assaulting the complex. Hope's fears are confirmed when the team runs into a squad of Flatliners. In a meeting of the Canaanite Commission of Strategic Maneuvers, various government agents discuss with General Haight the danger of the Clan Chosen destroying the Tinex. General Haight is very optimistic, however, and scoffs at their doubt. The Clan Chosen, he assures them, will not destroy the Tinex because they have Garrison Kane with them and he will want to use the Tinex to get back to his own time. If, perchance, the Clan Chosen isn't stopped by the Flatliners and the Tinex is destroyed then their plans go ahead as scheduled, as Sinsear will be used as planned. It is intimated that Sinsear may have already gone back in time to begin the events that will ensure the rise of Apocalypse.Outgunned, the Clan Chosen opts to use Boak as a shield against any gunfire. The Flatliners begins to overload the field and Cable instructs Eleven to emit an empulse shock that should disable any machinery around them. It's dangerous, as it disables their own weaponry. Once Boak lets the field down the Clan Chosen sees that the Flatliners were merely stunned - they are still completely operational. With limited options, the team runs. Cable calls on Boak to release an energy blast that will most likely take Boak out of the fight. Hope protests but Boak does it and obliterates the Flatliners. He is reduced to a heap of scrap metal. Cable leaves Dawnsilk and Tetherblood to watch for reinforcements while he, Kane, and Hope accompany Eleven into the Tinex control room. Hope informs Cable that destroying the place is all too easy. She also mentions that the Tinex has been recently used.In Austria, 1993, a man knocks on the door at home of Tolliver, the dangerous arms dealer that disappeared some weeks prior. A man answers the door and informs the man that Tolliver has been dead. The stranger, Sinsear, pulls out a blade and stabs the man to death. He walks into the house and says that Tolliver is alive.Back in the future, Hope begins to scan the various timelines so as to send Kane back before destroying the facility. She has difficulty because there are so many different variations. Cable thinks that Graymalkin should have a signal to latch on to and can't figure why it wouldn't be responding. Hope continues looking. Cable goes back out to Tetherblood and Dawnsilk and lets them know that he'll be accompanying Kane back to the past. Tetherblood doesn't understand why; Cannonball has supposedly ascended to be an immortal, what other job could Cable have? He explains that someone else had gone back in time and he must go back and stop any tampering. Cable then confirms with Kane that they'll traveling together. Their affairs set, they make the jump once Hope has found the right time node. Once the two are gone, Hope plants an explosive and the Clan Chosen escapes by bodysliding to the sewage vehicle. The fly away and the Tinex explodes. In the present, Cable and Kane land in Graymalkin's time core. Cable finds it odd that the base is online. Meanwhile, a group of mercenaries are searching for Deadpool.Cable and Kane are trapped in a time machine below water and spend most the time talking about their pasts. G. W. searches through Cable's safe house for info. Sinsear is in search of Deadpool. Cable returns to his safe house and G. W. tells Cable he knows were X-Force is.SynopsisHaving just arrived back in the present, Cable and Garrison find themselves in a very dark Time Displacement chamber. Kane clears up that Cable's base of Graymalkin allowed him to travel anywhere - so what happened this time? Cable doesn't know but tells Kane to settle down so that he can get things sorted out. Kane then rambles about his past; how he joined the military life at age 13 and hasn't much to show for his life. Cable tells Kane that he's found something better than a way out: beer. The two settle down with their drinks and Kane figures that now is a great time to get some answers. In the Swiss Alps, a man skis towards a house. As he draws closer he trips an alarm. Defenses are raised and the man is shot at while he continues his course towards the house. The defenses ramp up and the man turns on some jets on his skis and launches himself into the home. The defenses immediately cease when the man is recognized by the systems. The home belongs to Cable; the systems are run by the Professor; the man is G.W. Bridge. As a former friend, Bridge is welcomed by the Professor. In Sarajevo, a lone man named Weasel walks through the war-torn streets while singing his own rendition of a Sinatra song. He is shot at upon entering his safehouse. It's only a warning shot, as Sinsear is there looking for information about Deadpool. Weasel relates that Deadpool hasn't been around for a while since leaving to find his old girlfriend, Copycat. Weasel then starts rambling about how profitable the civil war has been in Sarajevo and Sinsear has to shut him up. Sinsear explains that he needs Deadpool because he is closely associated with someone called "the Other."Back under the ocean, Cable tells Kane that he's drinking too fast. Kane explains that tight places now get under his skin after being stuck under so much rubble, no thanks to Cable. Changing the subject, Kane asks Cable why he never knew that Stryfe was his twin brother. Cable explains that he's learned that Stryfe is/was not his twin. They are more like odd mirror images of each other. Cable, however, has limited telekinetic abilities while Stryfe could wreak all kinds of havoc with his abilities. Cable believes that Stryfe is the original and that Cable is some kinds of washed-down version, a clone. He figures Stryfe came back in time to kill the parents that somehow end up being Cyclops and Jean Grey. Cable assures Kane that this mission will succeed because he's going to exact whatever revenge Stryfe wanted to exact. In Cable's chalet in Switzerland, Bridge tries to get a few things straight. Being near Graymalkin when it exploded he thought that Cable's computer system was completely destroyed. The Professor explains that it had merely created as situation in which it would appear that Graymalkin had been destroyed when it had really jettisoned off a few parts and recloaked itself. Bridge then can't believe that after all Cable had put the old Six Pack team through that Bridge was now hanging out with the fabled Professor - a computer system that has made one incredible pot of coffee, at that. Sad, Bridge laments, that this meeting had to occur after Cable's death. Professor then refutes this notion and states that Bridge hangs out for just a little bit longer he may find out the real ending to the fight between Cable and Stryfe.Back in Sarajevo, Sinsear scans the landscape for any sign of Deadpool. He runs into a band of mercenaries doing the same thing. One of the men asks if Sinsear is also looking to get into the Tolliver Will. Having enough of these men, Sinsear very efficiently kills them with a parabolic slicing blade (a flying razor disc). One man is allowed to live. Having mentioned Tolliver, "the Other," Sinsear asks this man for information.Underwater, Kane asks how Cable is able to keep going after losing so much in his life. The answer is that if Cable gives up then nothing would have mattered. All the lives lost would have been for nothing. As long as Cable fights, "they" don't win. He then tells Kane to get ready. Cable has had the bunker tapped in to his personal power supply. With the teleporter now ready, Cable and Kane ready themselves for an arrival at the Swiss safehouse. Upon arriving they get the odd surprise of seeing Bridge waiting for them. They blame Cable for all their troubles with Stryfe.Note: Page 28 has speech bubbles pointed at Kane and Cable but both belong to Hammer.SynopsisCable and G.W. Bridge are at odds again. Cable and Garrison had just arrived at the Switzerland safehouse and had found Bridge waiting for them. Before Cable could put a hole in Bridge's head Bridge mentioned that he knew how to find X-Force. This has lead to the current fist fight. The men exchange blows while Kane fixes up a pot of coffee. As the battle goes on, Bridge accuses Cable of many of the same things that Kane had beef with months prior (though really a year to him since he'd been in the future that long). Kane finally steps in and states as much and explains that Cable is trying to make things good again; they've brought technology back to help their old comrade Hammer walk again. This stops the fight and Cable and Bridge shake hands on a truce. On the information provided by Copycat concerning X-Force's last base of operations, former Six Pack teammates Domino, Grizzly, and Hammer fly to the Adirondack Mountains with Copycat in tow. Hammer accesses schematics for the base (it was Trask's old Sentinel compound) and confirms Copycat's claim that living space does exist under the mountain. Hammer lands the Winnebago as Grizzly explains that his old team Weapon: PRIME attacked X-Force here recently when the base exploded. Domino is furious when she learns that Copycat knew the base would be uninhabitable and she moves in for the kill. Copycat buys herself more time by explaining that they can tap into any functioning computers to track X-Force. Grizzly pounds his way through the rubble until the team breaches the buried base. The search for a computer. In Switzerland, G.W. relates the story of the fight he recently had with X-Force on Graymalkin. He then states that Cannonball jettisoned major portions of off Graymalkin before the base exploded. Cable can't believe that Graymalkin is destroyed. Cable asks his computer to find Graymalkin. It can't, but Cable knows that if the computer responds then Graymalkin must still be in operation. To find the answer to this odd conundrum Cable needs to find his X-Force team. Kane suggests they find Domino to rejoin their Six Pack group and G.W. mentions that she's already started that endeavor by hooking up with Grizzly and Hammer. Cable is disturbed. His last request to her was to find X-Force. If Hammer is with Domino then he'll be able to use Cable's stuff to find Cable and exact revenge. In the South Pacific, Sinsear scans frequencies until he hears Cable's search for Graymalkin. He hasn't found his target yet, but it seems that he's found the father.Hammer flies his Winnebago to Camp Verde in Arizona. The group has followed X-Force's mutagenic signatures to this location but doubt their information since the place looks like a graveyard. Hammer indicates that some activity has been going on underground. Grizzly, Domino, and Copycat head below and get jumped by Cable, G.W., and Kane. Upon seeing Cable, Copycat runs and embraces him. Cable is flabbergasted and asks if he knows her. Copycat explains that she was Domino. Cable doesn't know how to respond to this and explains that he never knew that that Domino wasn't really the Domino he knew. He pushes Copycat away and gruffly exclaims that he doesn't know her. Cable moves the group topside to talk to Hammer while Copycat stays behind and cries, as she thought she'd had something special with Cable.Topside, Hammer blasts Cable as soon as he sees him. He guides the Winnebago to grab Cable with some mechanical tentacles. Hammer exclaims that he is going to render Cable dead from the neck down, just as Cable did to him. Kane tries to reason with Hammer by telling him that Cable has acknowledged his past errors, as well as the fact that they've brought some futuristic tools with them to help Hammer walk again. Hammer eventually lets Cable go and looks at the blueprints for an overhaul of his nervous system. Hammer is sure it will work but refuses the procedure on the policy that he doesn't want to become another mirror image of Cable. The group then tries to decide their next move. Copycat has escaped and Domino is raring to go after her. G.W. asks Cable if the group should get back together. There would be one condition, however, and that's that Cable comes clean and promises no future secrets; no personal missions. The group decides that it can work together, just not with Cable. In the course of this plan, however, many things are revealed to Cable about his past. In order to fully understand, Cable must give in to the Chaos Bringer, an action that may put his parents in danger. Askani is back and her mission is the same: save the family of the Clan Chosen.SynopsisTolliver is not dead. Neither is Tyler Dayspring, the son of Cable. In fact, the two are one in the same. Tyler is found by Zero, Stryfe's old minion. Zero questions Tyler's course of action, but Tyler feels justified in exacting revenge on those who have hurt him, the primary target being his father Cable. Tyler intends on using others to exact his revenge, the first person being Mr. Sinister. In New York, Cable is drawn to the grave of Madelyne Pryor Summers, his mother. Domino is with him and Cable explains that Madelyne was actually the mother of Stryfe, of whom Cable is a clone. He asks Domino to help him sort out his head. As the two talk, Mr. Sinister appears and offers to tell them the truth they've been seeking. She was a clone of Jean Grey and he hoped the offspring would be raised to be the savior of mutantkind. When Cable scoffs that Stryfe utterly failed with this charge, Mr. Sinister sets the record straight by explaining that Madelyne Pryor didn't birth Stryfe but Cable. As he vanishes, Sinister orders Cable to let the monster out. Cable feels a shock and then lashes out at Domino. He stalks away muttering to himself as if possessed.Askani stands guard outside Xavier's Mansion and feels the presence of the man she feared would threaten the Chosen's family. Before she can sort anything out another presence manifests: Tyler and Zero appear. Askani can't believe that Tyler would disrupt so sacred a mission. Tyler explains that he is there to do more than that and takes Askani prisoner. Askani cries out that Stryfe has returned and that she needs to protect the Chosen's family. Tyler laughs. Mr. Sinister has freed Stryfe from inside Cable's mind. Tyler has captured the electric embodiment of the latest Askani, which prevents her from warning Cyclops and Jean Grey. Just for kicks, Tyler demands that Askani relate the history of his father. Domino enters and informs the trio that Stryfe wasn't the son of Cyclops and Madelyne Pryor - Cable was and is.Inside Tyler's sanctuary, Askani shows him Cable's origin. Cable arrived in the future as a baby with the techno-organic virus. Mother Askani - Rachel Summers - feared that the child wouldn't survive and ordered to have him cloned. Tyler is shocked that Stryfe, the clone, the child without blemish, grew to be the man that tortured Tyler and warped his brain. He wonders what his life would have been like knowing that his father was truly the son of Cyclops.Domino convinces Xavier, Cyclops, and Jean Grey to head to Camp Verde, the home of X-Force and the most likely place Stryfe will go to get supplies. Upon arriving, Xavier hurries the group along, as he senses the psionic cries of people in the base. They rush in and find Siryn and Richter lying on the ground. Domino goes searching for clues while the mutants are cared for. She returns as Siryn awakens to tell about her odd encounter with Cable. Cyclops, Jean Grey, Professor X, and Cable's son Tyler face off against the resurrected Stryfe- in control of Cable's body! Can these telepathic titans save Cable from Stryfe's control…or will Cable have to pay the ultimate price for him to be stopped?Stryfe has found Tyler Dayspring and the two try to emotionally joust one another. Stryfe loses, however, when he triggers Tyler's ability to project the truth from someone's mind, that person being the time-traveling Askani. Not knowing what to believe, Stryfe is accosted by a psi-attack and is given the choice to do something good with his life. He leaves Cable's body.Notes:Error: On page 10, the narrator falsely states that Domino had to be convinced to go to Camp Verde to find Cable. It was the other way around; Domino had to convince Xavier.Error: On page 14, Jean explains who one of the time-anomalies are, despite not having a clue as to who they were one panel prior. This should have been attributed to Zero.SynopsisStryfe bullies Tyler Dayspring around until Tyler reveals that Stryfe isn't the actual son of Cyclops and Jean Grey. Stryfe can't believe what he hears and the trapped Askani confirms Tyler's assertions. Stryfe destroys Askani's form. Askani had been linked to Tyler, who has the ability to project the thoughts of others. He shows Stryfe the truth of his past.Meanwhile, Zero has found Professor Xavier, Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Domino. Zero confirms their fears that Cable's body has been wholly possessed by Stryfe. Zero then explains how this came to be: When Cable and Stryfe were sucked into the time vortex on the Moon Stryfe's body was destroyed. His mind, however, found refuge in Cable's since their bodies had been so similar. Xavier reckons that Mr. Sinister was able to release Stryfe from inside Cable's mind.Zero teleports the four mutants to Tyler's citadel where Stryfe is getting a lesson in history. He can't believe that his entire life has been a lie. He watches as his infant body is referred to as the clone; he sees Apocalypse claim his infant body as his own; he recognizes that he has been wrong about his heritage his whole life. Xavier enters Stryfe's mind with his crew and they see Stryfe's harsh upbringing. They see the pain both Stryfe and Cable endured just to be able to make it to the present. The form of Askani enters Stryfe's mind and convinces him that letting go of Cable is the only way to begin to turn Stryfe's life around. Stryfe finds irony in this and agrees to do so as a last cruel joke. Cable awakens as himself and simply gets up to leave to clear his head. Cyclops begs him to stay. Cable has just learned the truth of his family ties, and he'll do whatever it takes to get more answers- unless the villainous Omega Red has his way! Can Cable defeat this Cold War killing machine? The Acolytes find Omega Red in the sewers of London and offer the idea that he can be cured from his death spore virus. Omege Red then attacks the Muir Island Research Center in hopes of finding a component to the cure. Cable had been there to have some tests done concerning his link to Phoenix, but he is sedated when Omega Red attacks. In the end, Omega Red escapes and Cable is determined to regain the stolen property. Joining him are the Acolytes.SynopsisCable travels to Muir Island to get some answers. The last time he was there, he and Phoenix discovered that she could hear Cable's interior monitoring systems. In light of recent revelations about Cable's father being Cyclops, the theory is that the two are in fact related and share a special bond that neither of them knew about. Cable mopes about and Phoenix calls him out on it. Cable, it seems, is too bitter get answers anymore. In London, some of Magneto's Acolytes scour a sewer. They search for Omega Red, but all they initially find are his victims floating in the refuse. They find one man still alive (barely) and so they know they are close. Katu lurches forward and calls out Omega Red and the latter leaps from the shadows and clutches Katu in his syphoning tentacles. Katu is finally released and the group explains that they have searched for Omega Red for one purpose: to help him be free of his death sport virus.Above ground, the Weird Happenings Organization has its hands full with a fire that they are sure was caused by some mutant acting out. Brigadier MacNeil calls Excalibur for help. Phoenix and Kitty Pryde are quickly dispatched. Moira prevents Cable from helping, as she has some tests she wants to run to discover the true link between Cable and Phoenix. As they walk to a lab, Omega Red stands in the distance. In the lab, Cable gets hooked up to a machine and Moira begins her the first of her tests. She is surprised to see that Cable's arm is not purely metal, as a prior test had indicated. Cable admits that he's masked the truth about his techno-organic arm in the past to protect himself. Moira begins another test and dampens the mechanical aspects of Cable's body when alarms go off in the complex. Cable is helpless and Moira packs a big gun to find the cause. She is immediately subdued by Omega Red.Ignoring his numb right side, Cable attempts to fight Omega Red. It is a one-sided affair as Omega Red wipes the floor with Cable while preaching about the joys of a warriors victory. He then turns to a console and extracts a vial of biocellular subcutaneaous matrix stabilizer. Just then, however, Cable's body is freed and he gets use of his limbs. The two engage in another battle and Cable seems to get the upper hand Omega Red finally finds the dampening button and Cable is rendered useless again.Cable wakes up a time later to the sound of Phoenix's voice. He sees a vision of old Mother Askani that melds into Phoenix's face. Cable admits that he really is ready to get some questions answered and informs the ladies of his intention to attend the wedding of Cyclops and Jean Grey. Kitty then explains Omega Red's plan: Omega Red is searching for a way to stop his death spore virus and his stop at Muir Island was merely to gather one of many things scattered across the globe. Cable says that he is on the hunt and Kitty informs him that he may not be alone. But what is Omega Red after? And can Cable even trust the Acolytes not to betray him?Cable joins with the Acolytes to hunt Omega Red down at the former arctic base of Magneto. Cable gets a shock, however, when he learns that the Acolytes aren't really after Omega Red.SynopsisOmega Red visits the research lab of Director Lashniev, home of Project Epsilon. After killing everyone but the Director, Omega Red coerces Lashniev to give him certain protocols that may stem the death spore which ravages his body. Lashniev is hesitant but finally downloads the information after getting thoroughly beaten.Cable and a few Acolytes land a few minutes later and they are met by angry troops. The Acolytes start wasting these guards until Cable forcibly insists that they stop. Milan finds Lashniev and hooks up and sees that Omega Red was in fact just there. The Acolytes fear that Omega Red may be headed to Avalon to perform his lifesaving experiment. The only access point from Earth is at Magneto's base at the Arctic. Cable travels with the Acolytes and stakes out the base.As the team figures how to penetrate the base, Cable takes Katu aside and asks him how he can align himself with these Acolytes. Katu explains that he was an Inuit fisherman in Russia. He had a family and lived a peaceful life. Unbeknownst to him, his mutant power of redirecting transmissions was affecting Russian satellites. An ops team arrived and wiped out Katu's family and abducted him to reconstruct his body for their purposes. This gross act instilled in Katu a sense of revenge. The group approaches Magneto's base and reach the outer buoys. Breaching these will cause an alarm so Katu climbs one and blows it up. He uses his powers to redirect the perimeter beams elsewhere while Cable and the other Acolytes approach the base. Voght teleports the group inside and they begin to prepare for Omega Red's arrival. But can even he fend off the villainous mutants and stop Omega Red's plans at the same time?Cable uses Magneto's former base against the Acolytes. Divide and conquer works at first, but Omega Red still poses a threat and Cable turns to him. If Omega Red is successful in curing himself then the death spore virus will be released from his body and dispersed to the human race. It takes an incredible sacrifice to stop Omega Red, but once he's stopped then the Acolytes are finished with Cable.SynopsisCable is cornered by the full slate of Acolytes. Knowing his ability to control Magneto's arctic base, he orders the lights off and runs. Walls open for him as he makes his way to the control center. He sees via the base's network that the Acolytes have split up to find him. He decides to have some fun with them.In Florida, Lee Forrester prepares for another fishing expedition. Paolo, a deckhand, is sent back to market for a proper net. On his way there, however, he is pulled into the water. Senyaka drains his lifeforce as he awaits the strength to attack Lee.Using his unique connection to the base, Cable takes out Milan and one of the Kleinstock brothers. He uses the walls to engage Unuscione in an odd fist fight and ultimately overpowers her force field. Cable then haphazardly runs into the other Kleinstock brother, Cargill, and Voght. Cargil explains that Omega Red is already trying to release his death spore virus on the world and the Acolytes simply want to gather their teammates and leave the Earth to its fate. Cable is shocked at their callousness to all of humanity dying. Voght teleports Cable away and admits that her team has gotten out of hand. He overpowers Voght and waits for the last few minutes of the process to complete so as to be free from the death spore virus.Cable fights Colossus and the two get in some good punches and some good verbal barbs. Colossus truly believes that Cable should join Magneto's cause. Cable finally sees that Colossus is a lost cause and experiments with his newfound telepathy to make Colossus change to his human self. He then knocks Colossus out.Cable finds Omega Red and engages him in a fight but sees that this will also be fruitless since time is almost out. Katu arrives and "volunteers" to sacrifice himself by being transported into space so as to release the death spore virus away from the Earth. Cable senses the real purpose and prohibits Katu from teleporting away because the real plan is to have the death spore virus act as a shield between Avalon and Earth. It's a showdown in the wilderness- but can Cable and Lee make it out alive?Senyaka is not dead and he is after anyone associated with his former god, Magneto. Current target: Lee Forrester. Cable intercepts the distress signal and the two fight off Senyaka as best as they can. Once the fight is over, though, Cable's gadgets are worthless and the two must find their way through the Everglades.SynopsisLee Forrester huddles in fear as a madman kills every one of her ship's crew. Her S.O.S. to the X-Men seems to have been in vain and she makes a break for the door. A chord wraps around her neck and Lee is brought face-to-face with Senyaka. She shoots him with a flare gun and he hurls her into the Ponce de Leon Bay. Cable pulls her out and begins to question how she was able to send a message directly to the X-Men but is interrupted by the approach of Senyaka.Senyaka explains that, while his body had been crushed by Magneto and he had been pronounced dead, he had enough of his essence left to absorb the energies of the doctor working on him in the hospital. It was enough to regenerate. Senyaka had then vowed to destroy everything about Magneto, including past lovers - hence the attack on Lee Forrester. Unfortunately for them, they have wandered into the home of D'Spayre, a being that feeds off the fear in the lives of others. But it seems as if it were all a game because Belasco appears to stop D'Spayre and recruit Cable to take down a common enemy.SynopsisAs Cable and Lee Forrester hike through the Everglades, a storm develops and sends the duo looking for shelter. This completely tires him out; fortunately, a house is soon found to pass the night.Desmond, an old man that lives in the house, welcomes the two travelers. As the night passes, Desmond lets on that he knows an awful lot about Cable and Lee, even going so far as to drop their full names. Cable senses that something is amiss and attempts to bully Desmond into giving some answers. Instead, Cable has the memory of his wife's death and son's betrayal play out in his mind. But is Cable ready for the ultimate challenge…a date with Domino? What starts out as a lovely evening for Cable and Domino turns out to be a night spent in the sewers. Thornn is back and she is convinced the Morlocks are still alive. Cable and Domino accompany Thornn to the Morlock Tunnels and perform the Ceremony of the Light, an act that shows that the Morlocks are alive, they just aren't ready to come back from wherever they are hiding.SynopsisMonths ago, the Morlock Tunnels were flooded by Mikhail Rasputin and it was believed the that the entire group was killed. Thornn, however, managed to escape and has lamented her loss of Sarah, a little mutant girl.In the present day, Cable and Domino prepare for their first official date. They both have their worries about the evening: Cable is worried Copycat will come up (the shapeshifter that impersonated Domino for a while and got close to Cable) and Domino is worried that mixing work with pleasure is a terrible idea. Both suck it up, however, and head out to dinner at a nice restaurant. Before dinner arrives, things are awkward and not much is said. Domino proposes a game in which they name one book, one piece of music, and one person that they would like to have with them on a deserted island. Cable takes his turn and then guesses Domino's music answer and fails miserably. To cover it up, he says that Domino always listens to Streisand. He then realizes that it was Copycat. Before he can wallow in his faux pas for too long, Cable notices a pair of eyes in the bushes and excuses himself to investigate.Cable comes face-to-face with Thornn, Feral's sister. They get into a quick tiff, but Domino shows up and separates the two. Thornn breaks down and begs Cable for his help. Thornn has reason to believe that the Morlocks did not die in the flood. If they really did die then she is going crazy. (Domino writes her off as crazy.) Cable and Domino agree to follow Thornn into the deserted Morlock Tunnels. In the tunnels, Thornn explains that there is a portal to another place in which she believes the Morlocks are hiding. She has heard Sarah's voice and is convinced that the Morlocks will return upon Cable helping to perform the Ceremony of the Light. The trio works throughout the night to place reflecting objects around the Morlock Tunnels and finally let some light in at dawn. For an hour the sunlight bounces off each object and illuminates the vast caverns, which have been meticulously carved to resemble a beautiful monastery.A child emerges from the shadows. Along with Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Wolverine, Cable stages an all-out assault on the Phalanx citadel! Can they take it down, or is all of mutantkind doomed to assimilation?Continued from Wolverine #85. Cable, Wolverine, Jean Grey, and Cyclops assault the main collective of the Phalanx in Tibet. While Wolverine heads off to free the X-Men, the others keep the Phalanx busy. Once free, the X-Men wipe out the Phalanx.SynopsisWithin the Phalanx citadel in Tibet, Cameron Hodge alerts Stephen Lang to an aircraft on a collision course. Lange carries away Psylocke (whom he is secretly conspiring with to overthrow the Phalanx) as the plane crashes into the citadel. The previous occupants of that plane - Cable, Wolverine, Cycops, and Jean Grey - are now scaling the nigh-impenetrable north face of the cliffs in hopes of infiltrating the citadel without being detected. Lang okays a search for the attackers, but orders that the north face be exempt from search due to its treacherous heights. He then turns back to Psylocke and admits that all possible plans for humankind involves the liberation of the X-Men. He proposes a plan to Psylocke that includes her completely and willingly submitting to Lang's influence (which could allow the total assimilation of her body to the Phalanx), but with a fail-safe placed to free her upon the occurrence of a certain event. She reluctantly submits. On the north face, the remaining X-Men struggle to reach the citadel. A large overhang prevents the group from going any further and they determine to let Jean use a micro-burst of power to toss Cable up. The plan works, but the top of the overhang is sloped and Cable is unable to get a good hold. Wolverine jumps and clambers up Cable's back and is able to get a rope secured and lowered for the other two. Wolverine finally helps Cable up, but not before giving him a warning that if he ever hurts Jean (he had noted Jean's fear at seeing Cable struggle) that he would rip Cable apart; otherwise, the slate is now clean between the two.Inside the citadel, Hodge notes the slight blip on the north face and insists that Lang have it checked out. Lang refutes the notion as being illogical and orders searches to be conducted elsewhere. Lang then plants Psylocke and leaves to mull over part two of his plan - the release of the other X-Men.Hodge discovers Psylocke and she tells him - just as Lang planned - that Lang has partitioned off a part of his mind from the Phalanx collective. Hodge can't believe it. Despite this disturbing news, Hodge rescans the crashed plan and finds a techno-organic tendril. He surmises that the plane had been at Muir Island and the tendril will hold enough memory to reveal how the island had been lost.Under the citadel, Cyclops blasts a hole in the bottom of the structure and Jean psi-blasts Cyclops and Cable through the hole. Father and Son enter the citadel firing on all cylinders with Jean following closely behind with psi-attacks. Hodge leads the counterattack. Cyclops and Jean are knocked out and Cable is left to fend for himself.Amidst the chaos, Wolverine sneaks in. He finds "the Womb" where the other X-Men are being kept. He slashes at Bishop's containment field but only manages to put a small hole in it before being attacked by Phalanx member Brick and Dymphna. Wolverine throws Brick into Bishop's containment field and Bishop absorbs the alien's energy and blasts out of his prison. The rest of the X-Men are set free and they immediately join the fight. Hodge panics and orders Psylocke to take out Cable. This is Lang's trigger, which releases Psylocke from the Phalanx hold. She tells Jean and Cable to channel their psi-powers through her and she funnels it all on a focal point: the Phalanx Psi-Net. Bishop then begins to absorb all the energy he can from the citadel. Hodge draws power from the world-wide outposts, which destroys the other Phalanx strongholds. The citadel then begins to collapse.Lang stands high above the action and relishes in the defeat of both the Phalanx and the X-Men. The X-Men, however, are being extracted at that moment. Hodge, however, has found Lange and drags him into the citadel as it explodes. On the other side of the galaxy, a large techno-organic being senses the absence of the aliens on Earth.

Grade: VF/NM

Note: Stock Image
Issue Number: 56
Release Date: 1998-07-31
Writer:
Artist:

Cable isn't one to hold a grudge.
