Patterson, colored by Adrienne Roy and lettered by Jean Hipp. Seeking a home for its children, an alien creature travels to earth on a Ferris-owned asteroid probe. Just before its arrival, its spots Wonder Woman, Batman and the Flash in the Justice League satellite and takes their combined form. After escaping a scrap with Hal Jordan, the beast travels to Star City, where it encounters Green Arrow and Black Canary. As Ollie introduces himself and Dinah, the alien lashes out and knocks him unconscious. Just then, Green Lantern shows up and joins the duo in the fight. Both Green Lantern and Green Arrow lay blows to Replikon. Through ingenuity the trio is able to defeat him, but as they are deciding what to do with him, Replikon rockets into the sky. Green Arrow tries to hold on, but then Replikon turns back into mist, sending the archer hurtling to the ground. Green Lantern makes a cushy landing for the Arrow, but chides himself for letting Replikon get away. Later that night, Hal tries to cheer himself up by visiting his girlfriend Carol at her hotel. His plans for the night are dashed when he finds she’s already spending the evening with a suave gentleman named Andre. As Andre leaves a swooning Carol Ferris at her door, she remarks about how his foreign charm makes her feel like a schoolgirl. But soon Andre is on the roof of the hotel, where he turns into mist, and solidifies…as Replikon. 2. “ The Champion of the Green Flame ” (Alan Scott) written by Cary Burkett, penciled by Mike Vosburg, inked by Bob Smith, colored by Adrienne Roy and lettered by Todd Klein. As Alan Scott enters an apparently deserted warehouse, he is suddenly engulfed in a huge explosion. Observing the damage, he notices there is no heat involved, and no wood was affected. Thus, he comes to the conclusion that his ring, which has been giving him problems, might have caused the explosion. He encounters a gang of looters, but when he tries to use the ring to detain one of them, the ring lashes out and strikes down the man. He defeats the rest of the gang bare-handed, but is afraid to use the ring again. Later, his friend Jay Garrick encourages him to return to the scene of the crime and investigate the surroundings of the place before throwing in the towel. Upon arriving at the warehouse, Green Lantern notices an energy trail leading away from the ruins, proving that his ring was not related to the explosion. Following the energy trail, he is led to Chinatown, where he is confronted by the master of the Green Dragon and his followers. Notes: First 40 page issue. Replikon begins implement his plan to destroy the ozone layer to let the radiation in so the world will be suitable to raise his unborn children, still waiting for him on his home planet in the asteroid belt. As Hal drives his rig out of town, he intercepts a distress call from the Star City Chemical Plant, which he discovers to be the work of Replikon. Feigning defeat, he learns that Replikon is Andre, Carol's new love interest. Unable to deal with the overwhelming truth himself, he approaches Ollie and Dinah for a plan. The two suggest getting Carol involved, but when confronted with the news that her new beau Andre is none other that the alien Replikon, she is devastated but reluctantly agrees. Carol has brought the unsuspecting Andre to an abandoned building at the edge of town. As she instructs him to go into the building where the heroes lie in wait, she leaves in tears. Once inside, Replikon is confronted by the trio of Justice Leaguers. With an immediate and continual barrage against him, they give Replikon no time to create a fighting strategy. When they have him against the ropes, Green Lantern springs the trap on him- a huge container made out of lead. Before the confused alien can react, GL has shut the cylinder completely, completely containing Replikon in the airtight makeshift prison. By now, Hal has determined where Replikon has come from, and using his galactic powers, flies Replikon back to his homeworld. Upon returning home, Hal meets up with Carol, who abruptly ends their relationship. 2. “ The Green Dragon of Death ” (Alan Scott) written by Cary Burkett, penciled by Juan Ortiz, inked by Vince Colletta, colored by Adrienne Roy and lettered by Clem Robbins. When Tong member Chin Loo attempts to put on the unconscious Green Lantern’s ring, he is consumed by mystical fire, as anyone with impure thoughts cannot wear the magical trinket. Once revived, he retrieves the stolen ring and creates a dragon illusion to help him slip away. The next day, Alan Scott is confronted by a striking oriental girl named Lo-Lanke, who informs him that she has been witness to his ordeals the past few days, and want to assure him that the explosion he was caught in had nothing to do with him. The destruction, Lo-Lanke explains, was in fact caused by her master, Lord Chang, as he attempted to test his powers. Upon hearing the name, Green Lantern suddenly remembers that Chang was an old foe who had learned how to harness the mystical powers of a fallen meteor to battle GL in the past. No sooner has Lo-Lanke finished, when Chang and his men burst in on the scene. They make quick work of the two, and Green Lantern is sentenced to burn in a fiery mystical pit. After 46 issues fighting side by side with Green Arrow, Green Lantern flew solo once more. Issue #123 reverted from Green Lantern \/ Green Arrow back to Green Lantern, although the reason for the split would only be detailed in the following issue: Hal Jordan had become focused on space mission, which Green Arrow was not best suited to. Writer Denny O' Neil, who remained with the series through to issue #129, returned the cosmic element to the emerald warrior's adventures. Whereas any Green Lantern \/ Green Arrow stories had revolved around Earthly, socially relevant topics, the duties of the Green Lantern of sector 2814 began to take on a more fantastic scope. Artist Joe Staton joined O'Neil on the series for this new era in Hal Jordan's (Green Lantern's) life. Hal and fortune teller Kari Limbo had almost married in the previous issue, but called off the wedding after learning that Kari's first love, the presumed dead Green Lantern Guy Gardner was trapped within the Phantom Zone. Hal tried to save Guy from the clutches of the Kryptonian General Zod and his fellow criminals but Gut was soon abducted by a yellow beam of light. Recognising the handiwork of Sinestro, Hal battled his arch-enemy and rescued Guy. Unfortunately, his friend's mind had already been torn apart by Sinestro and Hal returned the comatose Guy to Earth. Kari offered to look after her former lover, leaving Hal to hunt Sinestro. Notes: This issue contains the Hostess Superhero Ad, the Flash in \" The Stony-Eyed Medusa \" .
