Sunspot wants to take out Juggernaut and Black Tom, but Gideon makes him wait for the right moment. X-Force arrives and attacks Juggernaut, or at least tries to. Black Tom has a duel with Gideon and Sunspot and prevails until Cable arrives.Oddity: Siryn calls Black Tom her cousin on a couple occasions. This seems odd because he is her uncle. This designation, however, is appropriate, as some parts of the world use "cousin" to denote a close blood relation.Story continues in Spider-Man #16.SynopsisWith a portion of the World Trade Center taken hostage by Black Tom Cassidy and the Juggernaut, Siryn approaches the building in hopes of stopping her uncle. The men are in cahoots with Arianna Jankos in a scheme to extort money from assembled billionaires to keep her international company afloat. Upon approaching the roof, Siryn is met by her old friend the Juggernaut. It's a brief fight, one in which the Juggernaut gives Siryn a pretty nasty punch. Having established a sonic shield, Siryn readies another attack. The Juggernaut, however, is joined by Black Tom. Siryn's uncle has no problem blasting her off the roof. Attempting to regain her composure, she's joined in the sky by Cable and X-Force's aircraft. Cable invites her aboard, provided that she wants to do what the local authorities are too afraid to do: confront the madmen head on.Inside, Gideon and Sunspot, two of the assembled men of wealth, discuss a plan of attack. Sunspot grows weary of waiting, but Gideon tells him to be patient. Black Tom and the Juggernaut stroll in and scoff at any plan the could come against their intentions.Aboard X-Force's ship, Cable and Siryn enjoy a quick reunion. He then proposes that she join their little band as they attempt to retake the World Trade Center. Siryn is in. The first move: Warpath launches himself from the aircraft and tackles the Juggernaut. The two men topple from the roof. Some of the hired goons for this operation are in awe at the move, but others are more in awe at the rest of X-Force's similar leap to the roof (Boomer, however, was left to fly the aircraft). The guards are quickly taken out and X-Force moves into the board rooms, taking the building floor by floor.Back inside, Black Tom sufficiently provokes Gideon into an altercation. Gideon is tagged by Black Tom's ability to shoot energy. Sunspot then gets a turn. He gets a few good hits in, but Black Tom is able to use his energy projection in close range and gets Sunspot to submit. Black Tom is then shot int he back by Cable. Never one to be defeated, Black Tom alerts X-Force that anymore rash moves and heal blow up the building - a threat evidenced by a detonator in his hand.On the ground, Warpath and the Juggernaut continue to exchange blows. It's a fairly even fight. Spider-Man swings by and, seeing the fight fruitless to join, decides to check on the hostages upstairs. Spider-Man, Shatterstar, Feral, and Warpath battle the Juggernaut. With team work, X-Force and Spider-Man finally hurt and slow down the Juggernaut. Black Tom and Cable are at a stand off and Cable shoots Black Tom several times. Deadpool teleports Black Tom and Juggy away to his boss and X-Force leaves as SHIELD shows up.Notes: A pinup by Mike Mignola is included after the story. Also, this issue is a special sideways issue.SynopsisOne of the towers of the World Trade Center has just been blown up. Cable is hunting the detanee, Black Tom Cassidy. The rest of X-Force is either looking for survivors or taking on the Juggernaut on the ground. Spider-Man is trying to help, and pastes some web goo in the Juggernauts eyes. That doesn't work; the Juggernaut is strong enough to rip that stuff out. Warpath ends up hurling a fastball special (at Domino's order) and Shatterstar uses his swords to cut through the moorings on the Juggernaut's helmet. Not knowing the effects of Shatterstar's venture, the Juggernaut advances.Upstairs, Cable looks for Black Tom through all the rubble. The men confront each other and realize that neither is bluffing about killing the other. They begin to shoot, but it's Cable that lands a hit. Black Tom falls into an elevator shaft and asks for the usual good-guy parlay. Cable knows that Black Tom would just be freed in a few months' time and decides to just kill Black Tom instead. After being shot, Black Tom falls. He is caught by Deadpool, however, and is teleported to Tolliver.Down below, X-Force continues to find a way to stop the Juggernaut. Up above hovers G.W. Bridge. He's spying on the team in hopes of gleaning information on the whereabouts of Cable. As the fight continues, Siryn flies over the Juggernaut and removes his helmet. The magic bonding, it seems, was not strong enough for the craftsmanship of Shatterstar's swords. At this moment, Cable comes out and confronts the giant man. Before the Juggernaut can react, Deadpool appears and teleports the Juggernaut to Tolliver. Seeing that the skirmish is over, Bridge lands and attempts to arrest Cable. Cable simply bodyslides his team away and they head for their home in the mountains, leaving the rubble of the World Trade Center, and Bridge, behind them.

Grade: VF

Note: Stock Image
Issue Number: 5
Release Date: 1991-12-01
Writer:
Artist:

Deadpool catches Juggernaut and Black Tom Cassidy and delivers them to a mysterious figure. Feral flirts with Shatterstar in the Danger Room while Warpath prepares for revenge. In the end, Carl Lykos is changed back in to Sauron.SynopsisDeadpool arrives in the European base for his boss, Tolliver, with Black Tom Cassidy and the Juggernaut in tow. Black Tom is nearly dead and the Juggernaut pleads for some sort of intervention. Tolliver assures him that his friend will be spared, but that the men will have a steep price to pay for such aid.In the streets of Manhattan, Karl Lykos walks home to enjoy a nice evening with his lady, Tanya. Upon entering his apartment, however, he finds Tanya subdued by the Blob and Toad. The Blob pins Karl to the wall and Toad explains that they have a need for Sauron to reemerge to help take out all the upstart X-Groups. They need Karl's alter ego to join the new Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. At the X-Force base, Cable, Domino, Boom Boom, and Cannonball watch as Gideon vilifies the X-Force team on television. Gideon states that while the plan to take the businessmen hostage at the World Trade Center was the idea of Black Tom, it was Cable's team that made things worse. In fact, he claims, Cable must have been working with Black Tom all along. The X-Force members assembled can't believe what they hear. Cable, however, is almost pleased. He feels their enemies will have to take them a bit more seriously. Cannonball and Boom Boom don't like this negative label, but they will stick with the group - not because they trust Cable but because they want to see things through.Outside, Warpath runs out his rage over the oppression he people has endured. He remembers fallen leaders and broken promises. He vows revenge against the Hellfire Club for wiping out his people.Feral secretly watches Shatterstar train. He is exact and dangerous. It excites her. Once he's finished she makes herself known, an act that angers Shatterstar because he doesn't like people watch him. Feral flirts, not taking him seriously. She leaves with an invitation to finish their wrestling match from the woods at any time.Cable catches up with Siryn and asks her when she wants to head back to Muir Island. She admits that there isn't much to go back to. The two agree that X-Force may be the perfect place for her, especially since Cable could use someone a little older to help out with his young team.In a meeting in Washington, D.C., it is determined that Val Cooper's X-Factor team is not yet ready to take on Cable and so the task again falls to G.W. Bridge. Bridge demands to know why he's supposed to arrest Cable. He's been going on orders alone up until now and he's sick of it, especially since he has a history with Cable. All he can get is that Cable's actions with his new team is making it hard for upstanding mutants to have a good name. Peter Gyrich then pipes up that Project: Wideawake is back online. Regardless of who gets Cable, the man is going down.In an abandoned warehouse, Toad has Karl Lykos and his girlfriend, Tanya, strapped to a machine. The machine, it is explained, will transfer the essence of Tanya to Karl, a process that will effectually transform Karl into Sauron. The process begins as Karl pleads on behalf of Tanya's life, as well as the life he's found as a regular man. The pleadings are unheeded and Karl disappears, being replaced by the winged mutant Sauron.

Grade: VF

Note: Stock Image
Issue Number: 6
Release Date: 1992-01-01
Writer:
Artist:

Toad's Brotherhood teams up with the Morlocks to take down X-Force. Past endeavors have failed and the X-Teams have thwarted him, yet Stryfe still holds on to hope that his plans will make everyone think twice about how they originally regarded him. He briefly looks over his foes displayed on his computer terminal before removing his helmet, showing that hauntingly familiar face of his - the one that looks just like Cable's.Below the streets of Manhattan, an uneasy alliance is formed. The new Brotherhood of Evil Mutants approaches Masque's Morlocks about joining up together for the purpose of exacting justice on any who is not a mutant. As an act of sincerity, Toad offers to settle a score with X-Force. Masque hesitates during negotiations, but Thornn steps up to affirm the position that the Morlocks will back up the Brotherhood. She wants revenge on her sister, Feral, who escaped some months prior. Masque ends up agreeing. In the secret X-Force base, Cable and Domino enjoy a post-workout soak in a large tub. Domino asks when Cable is going to tell the team about his past. She feels they have the right to know. Cable is sure of the fact, but he doesn't think anyone is mature enough to accept the information - even Boom Boom and Cannonball. He assures Domino that he'll tell them when they are ready. In the kitchen, Cannonball tries to impress Boom Boom with his sandwich making skills. She scoffs at his attempts, then grows uneasy when Feral walks in. Boom Boom immediately becomes antagonistic and yells at Feral about not being able to stand her, especially after Feral tried ripping out Cannonball's guts a few weeks prior. The two leave Feral seething.Outside, Siryn oversees a sparring match between Warpath and Shatterstar. Shatterstar wants a real fight to keep his competitive edge. As the two tussle, each sees a quality in the other that they aren't sure is all that great. Warpath simply sees a cocky fighter who does so only for the masses while Shatterstar sees someone driven by revenge. Before the two can begin another round, Siryn offers the three of them go out for a drink instead. The men consider it and then agree. Sauron draws first blood. Elsewhere, Kane is ambushed by MLF in an extra story called "X-Tenuating Circumstances."SynopsisOn the ground, Warpath and Siryn stare down Toad of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, along with Blob and Pyro. In the air, Shatterstar and Sauron tussle. This seems foolish to Sauron, as he is the only one with wings. Shatterstar throws caution to the wind and lashes out with one of his swords. On his way down he adjusts himself to break his fall with a tree branch that he swings deftly from. Seeing Sauron still airborne, Shatterstar runs for the armory for some long range weapons. With his wealth of knowledge, Masque finds an opening to the secret X-Force base. With him are Phantazia and Thornn, sister of Feral. Having gained the entrance, Masque flips on the lights and the trio walk in to find some very high grade weaponry. They plan to set some explosives, but shots ring out all around them and they turn to see Cable and some members of X-Force waiting to counter any attack. Cable, finally tired of his home being invaded, tells Masque that his time is finally up.Outside, Warpath is successful at getting the Blob into a ditch. Siryn takes out Pyro with a quick sonic jab to his throat, but Toad springs up and takes her from behind. He exhibits a new power: the ability to excrete a goo from his hands. Attempting to seal Siryn's mouth, Toad actually ends up getting shot in the back by a freshly returned Shatterstar. Siryn is grateful for the help and the three head inside to figure out what is going on.What's going on is that Thornn hits the lights and a scuffle begins in the dark. Feral immediately attacks her sister while Cable, able to see, tries shooting Phantazia down. Her powers scramble his circuitry, however, and he instead guides Cannonball right into her. Unfortunately for Cannonball, Phantazia's powers can disrupt humans as well and he goes careening off. Cable has had enough playing in the dark and he orders X-Force outside. Feral, however, can't pull herself away from the fight with Thornn. The sisters continue at it. Thornn enjoys being able to take her aggression out, especially after all Feral has put her through. Thornn ultimately wins and leaves Feral lying on the floor. At the underground entrance, Sauron enters and sees Cannonball flying towards him. Cannonball's powers are still going haywire and they glitch right as Sauron swings a pointed wing at his abdomen. Being temporarily vulnerable, Cannonball is impaled right through the gut. X-Force catches up to see Cannonball hanging from the wing of Sauron. Boom Boom can't believe her eyes. Cannonball is dead.X-Tenuating CircumstancesGarrison Kane, the latest Weapon X, plants himself outside a warehouse in Canada. He'd been called in to round up some smugglers of liquor and cigarettes. He scans the premises and notes only six warm bodies. On his own signal, Kane busts through the door and effectually kicks the crap out of the inhabitants. He notices that they are uniformed, an oddity for mere smugglers. He gets a smack in the back of the head and falls to the floor. He turns and sees that the six men were not the only inhabitants of the warehouse. Sumo, Forearm, and Wildside of the Mutant Liberation Front greet him, leaving Kane to wonder what he's gotten mixed up in. He shouts in triumph that he's killed the boy. Boom Boom can't believe it and cries for Cannonball to wake up. These words ring in Cable's head. Wake up... Awakening... He flashes back to his Wild Pack days.Cable's Wild Pack is in New Mexico on a contract to infiltrate a HYDRA research facility to recover a stolen energy converter. The line-up is Cable, Domino, Grizzly, Hammer, Garrison Kane, and G.W. Bridge. The team experiences mild resistance. Well, mild for them. At one point, HYDRA guards fire a plasma generator at Grizzly. Knowing the regeneration rate, Grizzly shakes the gun stand to pieces. Upon reaching the facility, the team climbs up the building to find a discrete way inside. Upon finding it, the team notices no resistance inside. In fact, they notice that nobody is inside, including the expected researchers. Kane simply remarks that the team's reputation must have preceded them. Regardless, Cable doesn't quite like the circumstances.Despite Cable's ill feelings, Hammer goes to work to locate the energy converter, officially called a fiber ionic fibrillator. As he tinkers around he triggers an alarm. Large screens flicker to life and the image of Baron von Strucker informs the team that they have twenty seconds to vacate the premises or else they die in a fiery explosion. Hammer has cleared the fibrillator so Cable quickly bodyslides the team to a helicopter that houses their contractor, the A.I.M. organization. A.I.M. is pleased with the Wild Pack's efforts, but inform them that the energy converter is a dud. It was designed with the intent of HYDRA stealing it so that A.I.M. could ascertain how far their research had come. With HYDRA so easily blowing up their research center, A.I.M. finds it easy to believe that HYDRA has not come far at all.The Wild Pack feels slighted at having been used so badly but their paycheck more than makes up for it. The team gets dropped off in Oklahoma. Cable is the first to leave and promises he'll call the team when another contract comes up. He races off on his motorcycle and timeslides to the future, his home. His robots (with very familiar names) greet him.Months pass (in which he may have done more work with the Six Pack, as the chronology wouldn't work otherwise) before Cable asks the Professor about any new findings on awakenings. The Professor informs him that Sam Guthrie, or Cannonball, might very well be a High-Lord. With sketchy information, Cable prepares to head back in time to find Cannonball. Shatterstar is mid-sentence when he stabs Masque in the back. In the next panel, Warpath seems to finish Shatterstar's thought while Cable suddenly wonders what Shatterstar is doing (and calling his "Shatty"). The next panel on page 23 then has Warpath wondering what was going on while Cable explains point blank why he asked Shatterstar to kill Masque. It seems that the bubble finishing Shatterstar's sentence should have gone to Shatterstar himself while Cable's bubble should have gone to Warpath, who actually would have called Shatterstar "Shatty."SynopsisOut of his reverie, Cable picks up Cannonball and runs to the medi-lab. It appears that his shots at Sauron had only wounded the reptile and Boom-Boom is sent back as a distraction. She is able to hold him off for a short time, but Thornn interrupts by tackling and taking a swipe at Boom-Boom's face. Boom-Boom's back-up arrives in the form of Domino, who summarily takes Thornn out with a speech on how the mutants should be banding together to fight for the greater good of mutant-kind, not trying to butcher each other. She and Boom-Boom then follow after Cable to the medi-lab.In the medi-lab, Cable has placed Cannonball's dead body on a table. Cable continues his vigil, whispering under his breath how Cannonball is a High-Lord and should be waking at any moment; Cannonball's life isn't supposed to start until death. Sauron then swoops in and Cable takes a few for shots at him.Outside, Warpath, Shatterstar, and Siryn wonder where the other Brotherhood members have gone to. Too late, Siryn realizes that Phantazia may be scrambling their senses. Sure enough, the Blob appears right behind them and knocks Warpath out of the fight. Shatterstar asks Siryn to affect the Blob's equilibrium with powers while he moves in and takes a swipe at the Blob's mouth. Seeing that these X-Force-ers are not like the other X-Teams (as this team goes for blood), he decides to bail on the fight by jumping into a ravine.Back in the medi-lab, Feral shows up to take some punches at Sauron. He admires her ferocity. Cable then pumps Sauron in the back with more gunfire. Thornn is appalled that Cable could be so unfair and shoot someone in the back, she attempts to fight Cable single-handedly but ends up taking a swipe at his face. This action removes some synthetic skin to reveal more machine. Whether she receives a shock from the bio-mechanics or her being startled was enough to throw her off her groove enough for Cable to subdue her, Thornn is soon out of the fight.Domino and Boom-Boom arrive. Domino is livid that Cable left the fight. He argues that he really thought that Cannonball had a chance to come back to life. Then in walks Masque and Phantazia. They plan on taking some revenge on Cable and Co., but then Warpath, Shatterstar, and Siryn stride in. With too much opposition, Phantazia buzzes out. Masque then thinks that they are at an impasse and he plans to walk away to fight another day. Cable, however, gives Shatterstar the go ahead and Shatterstar rams his sword through Masque's back. Some of the team is upset at this cruelty, but any objections get put on the back-burner when Cannonball stands up and asks what's happened.X-Tenuating Circumstances, Part TwoContinued from X-Force #7. Gideon has a plan: bring in Crule, a rogue high-lord. Either he will successfully get the high-lord without linking anything to the cabal of Externals, or he will fail and no one will be the wiser. Burke, however, is wary. What if Krule simply alerts Cable to the existence of the Externals. At dinner, Nicodemus asks what will be done with Sunspot now that he is not one of the immortals. Gideon simply states that he will definitely die, and sooner than he may have expected. In X-Force's underground home, Cable and his team stands over the bodies of Sauron and Masque. He promises that Masque's head will be set on a stick in the Morlock Tunnels as a warning but, for now, he and Cannonball need to have a little chat. He sends the team off to take care of loose ends (get the bodies to the morgue, put Thornn in a cell, find the rest of the Brotherhood) and he and Cannonball leave to another part of the base. Cable then runs some tests and confirms that Cannonball is alive. Cannonball can't believe the news that he died. Cable then tells him that won't be able to die so easy, as it appears that he is a special kind of mutant; an External; an immortal.Cable then tells Cannonball what he knows. Cable's sole mission is to find the mutant that can serve as the world's last hope. He thinks Cannonball is that mutant. He also explains that there is a club of these immortal mutants called high-lords, or Externals. He also guesses aloud that Gideon might be one of them, though any others are a mystery. Cable then admits that he let Sunspot go a while back simply because he knew that he was there for Cannonball. Boom-Boom barges in and states that all the chores are done - except that none of the other Brotherhood mutants have been found. She then makes sure Cannonball is doing okay. Cable leaves them and they discuss the ramifications of death and immortality. Cannonball just can't believe he died. Boom-Boom wonders how their relationship will be after this realization. Either way, Cannonball is just worried what his mom is going to think. In Tolliver's home, Deadpool is called in and Tolliver announces that their contact close to Cable hasn't reported in a long time. Deadpool is to pay her a visit and find out what's going on. Deadpool is more than happy, especially since the contact, Domino, put some knives into his back at their last meeting.X-Tenuating Circumstances, Part 3Having followed the MLF through Zero's port, Garrison Kane finds himself face to face with Stryfe. After knocking around some lower level mutants, Kane confronts Stryfe. Stryfe removes his helmet and reveals a face just like Cable's. Kane has no idea what to think and tries to rationalize what he sees. Is Cable Stryfe? Is Stryfe Cable? Stryfe simply throws out that maybe neither is who they seem. He then knocks Kane out.Kane awakens just 10 miles from his base of operations, Department K. He storms in and demands that Weapon P.R.I.M.E. be dispatched immediately to take Cable down. General Clarke cannot okay this, but he does introduce someone with a similar desire to see Cable humbled: Rictor.

Grade: VF

Note: Stock Image
Issue Number: 12
Release Date: 1992-07-01
Writer:
Artist:

After a brief battle, Gideon sends Crule to attack X-Force and bring in the newest External, Cannonball. Weapon Prime prepares to battle X-Force. Cable plans to use the fake Domino to infiltrate Tolliver's base and take him out for good.SynopsisIn Madripoor, a huge, purple brute takes out a cantina when he suspects cheating in a card game. He is Crule. He is also who Gideon has come to see. The two have a strained relationship, at best, and begin a knock-down, drag-out fight. Gideon, however, is able to mimic the powers of other mutants and soon gets the upper hand due to his technique. Once Crule has settled down he asks what is needed. Gideon states that a man needs to be stopped - Cable. In the X-Force base, the team surrounds who they think is Domino and ask how she could betray them (they having found her pretty battered after their excursion to the Morlock Tunnels, coupled with the supposed accounts of Shatterstar and Siryn about Deadpool's infiltration). She simply states that she is a mercenary and the money from Tolliver was good. Besides, after how Cable left his former team, the money would help to pay for certain operations. Shatterstar wants to kill her immediately; Cable has other plans.Weapon: PRIME is about ready to be placed in action, they just need one more component. Grizzly gladly joins the ranks. G.W. Bridge then lays out the plan: everyone fights until they can't, then the SHIELD ship they travel dishes out all it can. The goal is to take Cable down one way or another. The team is told to rest up for a very eventful day."Domino" places a call to Tolliver. She informs him that Deadpool's visit has reminded her of her true mission and she plans on blowing up the X-Force base while the team is in a scheduled practice session. Tolliver is pleased and promises a pardon for her past behavior if all goes to plan. After the call is over, Cable expounds the rest of his plan. Now that Tolliver knows that the base is going to explode he won't expect an attack by the X-Force team that he thinks will be dead. Cable moves out to prepare his team for evacuation. On the Weapon: PRIME ship, Kane runs into Rictor. Rictor is far from sleep and tells Kane that he is also more than ready to take on Cable. Years ago, he states, he watched Cable kill his father. Kane's resolve to get Cable deepens.Gideon and Crule land at Gideon's corporate offices. Sunspot is surprised that such a brutal looking mutant would be brought in as an associate. Gideon begins to act short with Sunspot now that he knows that Sunspot is not the ascending High Lord that he had originally thought (that supposedly being Cannonball). Sunspot asks one too many questions and Gideon unloads on the boy, pummeling him into unconsciousness. Gideon then tells Crule that there are plans for Sunspot. In the X-Force base, Cable breaks the news that the team must vacate. The base will be allowed to be destroyed so that no one can have access to information about the team. Bridge's orders, charge into the base to take Cable and his X-Force team. Upon the breach, Cable orders his team to attack. Each person is to take on an opponent with similar powers while Cable heads out to secure some of his more secret technology. The battle is standard fare: Warpath takes on Grizzly and beats him; Feral takes on Yeti and beats him; Siryn takes on Tygerstryke and beats him by sonically scrambling his suit. Shatterstar takes on Garrison Kane and goes so far as to chop off one of his mechanical arms. Kane simply uses his missing appendage to electrocute Shatterstar to take him out of the fight.Boom-Boom finds, however, that her match-up is not so cut-and-dry. She gets paired up with her former teammate and friend Rictor. She can't fathom why he still thinks that he has an ax to grind with Cable. Rictor simply tries to sell her on the idea that Cable has turned them all into terrorists. Cannonball zooms in and knocks Rictor down. Just then, Cable begins a mass evacuation of the team's equipment. Bridge uses this as an excuse to slam Cable by stating that Cable is obviously abandoning them - why else would Cable be missing in the battle with their stuff being teleported away. Angered, Cable pumps Bridge full of lead to end the fight. In New Mexico, Sunspots fate at the hands of the Externals is shown. Cable and "Domino" are split up from the rest of X-Force. X-Force defeats Weapon Prime and are then attacked by SHIELD. Crule comes after Cannonball. Cable finds the real Domino held prisoner by Tolliver and Deadpool.SynopsisIn the aftermath of the X-Force base blowing up, Cable and Domino emerge about three miles downstream. Tolliver, Cable knows, is responsible; responsible for the betrayal of Domino (whom he doesn't know is really the shapeshifter Copycat), responsible for the blowing up of his base, and, most importantly, the deaths of his students/teammates. For this, Cable vows death for Tolliver - and nothing less.Unbeknownst to Cable, X-Force is able to emerge from the blast due to Cannonball's ability to wrap his impenetrable blast shield around everyone. Well, almost everyone: Grizzly, Yeti, and Tygerstryke are missing. Also, Rictor, G.W. Bridge, and Garrison Kane are in a bad way, but that is mostly due to the fight they had just endured. Kane seems to defy the odds by trying to arrest X-Force by himself. His lone gun (and missing arm) don't worry X-Force at all. Kane, however, has other plans. A SHIELD unit arrives in time to arrest the group. Hiding, Crule, the External, learns that Cable is no longer with X-Force. This makes his task of eliminating Cannonball a bit easier.Back downstream, a SHIELD helicopter scans for Cable and Domino. Cable bodyslides them to the Graymalkin, the location of the X-Force gear. Cable gets loaded up and he and Domino head to Italy to take Tolliver down once and for all.X-Force, it seems, is more than capable of taking out the new SHIELD arrivals. They blast and pummel their way into commandeering the main assault ship. When Kane tries to take Boom-Boom at gunpoint, Rictor shakes the gun apart and declares that as long as Cable is out of the picture then he will stand by his friends. X-Force calls SHIELD for some back-ups to pick up the marooned soldiers and leaves in the SHIELD IPAC unit.In New Mexico, Mr. Joshua begins the second phase of the testing on Sunspot, despite any reservations he has about the safety of Sunspot.Aboard the IPAC unit, X-Force tries to figure their next course of action. As they fly over Newfoundland, Cannonball figures that Xavier's Mansion or Moira's laboratory could be options. Warpath then offers his burnt out reservation. It should suit them while they try to figure out other plans. Just then, Crule busts through the wall and takes Cannonball. He threatens to sever the new High Lord's branches to prove that an immortal mutant can die.In Italy, Domino shows Cable the back way to entering Tolliver's base of operations. Cable announces their arrival by blasting a huge hole in the wall. Pico welcomes them and tries to act menacingly with an electric whip. Cable shoots him to near death. Domino, who is really Copycat, sees the real Domino shackled to the wall, alive. Cannonball doesn't miss a beat and orders Shatterstar to take the External down while he steadies the ship. Shatterstar, Feral, and Warpath all attack the blood-lusted enemy to no avail. Crule shakes the three off of him and tries to make another move on Cannonball. One problem, however, stands in his way: Rictor. Before anything rash happens, Cannonball asks Crule about Sunspot. Being told that Sunspot will soon be dead, Cannonball okays Rictor to blast Crule right out of the aircraft. Rictor has no problem with this command and Crule falls a very long way to the earth. Rictor then turns to Cannonball to ask what has happened with Sunspot. Cannonball fills him in and requests the team's help in recovering his best friend. They, being a team (as well as runaway "terrorists"), don't hesitate to offer their support. They then fly to Denver to confront Gideon face-to-face.In Tolliver's Italian home, Cable can't believe his eyes: the Domino he came with lying on the floor - stabbed by Deadpool; a Domino chained to the wall - a prisoner of Tolliver. Deadpool explains: the Domino that Cable's been hanging out with was his on-again off-again girlfriend Vanessa (Copycat). The real Domino has been a prisoner of Tolliver's. And, with this last surprise, Tolliver orders Deadpool to kill Cable. The two go at it. The fight is brutal but Cable gets the upper hand. As he knocks Deadpool out, Tolliver slips out the back. Cable springs to Domino's side and tries to free her. Deadpool, his healing factor working overtime, is back in the fight and swings a sword. It narrowly misses and cuts up one of Domino's shackles. Deadpool then begins waxing the floor with Cable. As Deadpool is about to strike the death blow, Domino gets free and shoots him in the back. With no thought for rest, Domino and Cable run after Tolliver to end this chapter in their lives. On their way to Denver, X-Force receives a call from Gideon. He states that Cannonball will have to be content with either Sunspot or Gideon. He explains that the two are in different places: Sunspot is being experimented on while Gideon is far away. To go after Gideon would simply mean that Sunspot dies. However, he offers the location of Sunspot in exchange for a free pass - he'll tell where Sunspot is being experimented on if Cannonball promises to stay out of the affairs of the Externals. Seeing no other alternative, Cannonball agrees. Sunspot is in New Mexico, Gideon says, and X-Force quickly heads that way.In the lab, Sunspot is still being tested to his limits. His body has absorbed over 3,000% of what it should normally be able to. X-Force soon arrives and rips the Genetech building apart. When they find Sunspot, Cannonball quickly scoops him up and shoots towards the sky. X-Force can only watch as Sunspot eventually explodes. The two are able to make it back down to earth (Cannonball's blast field protecting them from any harm) and the team realizes that they don't quite know what to do next. Find Gideon? Find Cable and Domino, if they are still alive?Cable and Domino, very much alive, find Tolliver boarding his helicopter. The leap and grab the legs as the helicopter takes off. Cable tells Domino to let go, as she knows this helicopter is doomed. He wants her to find his X-Force kids and let them know what's going on. Reluctantly, Domino drops to the sea below. Cable then informs Tolliver that the debt he supposedly owes is now paid off and causes the helicopter to explode. Cable drops and bodyslides to safety. All that is left of Tolliver seems to be a mask that floats atop the water.Elsewhere, Domino pulls herself from the water and commits herself to finding Cable's X-Force, though she has no idea where to even start.Deadpool regains consciousness and realizes that everyone is gone, even Vanessa, whom he had supposedly killed. He teleports away.Cable arrives in his space base, Graymalkin. He finally fixes his synthetic skin and resolves to stop being the victim and to start being the hunter.X-Force lands at Camp Verde to establish their new home. While at the X-Mansion, Professor X tries to convince Cannonball that X-Force is going the wrong way in handling mutant peace.SynopsisBoomer looks good and she knows it. She has no problem checking herself out in a mirror, especially now that she has a new costume, courtesy of the X-Men's Shi'ar technology. Lila Cheney walks in and catches Boomer checking out her own butt. She then upbraids Boomer for talking so much (especially since she's simply talking to herself), something that should be discouraged due to her broken jaw. Boomer shuts down socially and derides Lila. Reading between the lines, Lila explains that she and Cannonball are nothing more than friends who had a fling a while back. If Boomer wants, she can go after Cannonball and not worry about getting in the way of any preexisting relationship. Then again, Lila quips, Boomer may not get any time to pursue Cannonball if X-Force goes to jail.Outside, Stevie Hunter finds Sunspot in a secluded spot by the boathouse. Stevie recalls how the younger mutants seemed to love this spot. Sunspot explains that they would come out there because they knew Professor Xavier didn't like to take his wheelchair that far out - they could be alone with their thoughts. He then explains that he's having a hard time figuring out who he is now. Gideon not only messed him up inside but also changed how he looks on the outside. Stevie hugs the young man as they contemplate what the future could bring. In the Danger Room, Rictor, Sunspot, and Feral go through a workout. Beast watches and is highly impressed by how good they all are - much better than his team was at their age. He admires their team work and efficiency. Shatterstar, it seems, has even finally learned how to mark positions on the battlefield in accord with the clock. His work seems wasted, however, once Feral mentions that most timepieces are now digital. After their practice session, Feral wishes the other two good luck, as she doesn't plan on being taken to jail.Elsewhere, two more members of X-Force sneak into a computer room. Siryn isn't too sure about the morality of their mission, but Warpath justifies it by stating that it's just payback. The two are copying all the information the X-Men have in their database so as to make X-Force's job just a little bit easier in taking down the bad guys. Siryn wonders if turning into bad guys to stop bad guys is worth it. Professor Xavier overhears this conversation. His thoughts are interrupted, however, by the arrival of Cannonball and Storm. Cannonball is livid as to why X-Force is still being detained. If the goverVFent wants to press charges then they just need to get on with it. Professor X tries to be understanding but loses his temper when Cannonball starts rationalizing the path that X-Force has taken. Cannonball is tired of being babied. He's appreciated Xaver's tutelage - he even learned something from Magneto and Cable - but it's time that he and his team was allowed to try standing on their own.Just outside of Boston, Tina Valentino gently raps on her guest's door. She asks Vanessa if she is ready to come out after being locked up for weeks. With no answer, Tina walks away. In the room, Vanessa Carlisle, or Copycat, sits on her guest bed naked, still quite shaken from her blow-out with Deadpool and Cable. On the SHIELD Helicarrier, G.W. Bridge is informed that he is being sanctioned for the incredible screw-up from the Weapon: PRIME mission. Even though it was technically a "see no evil" type mission, SHIELD still lost over $33 billion in assets. Through with bureaucracy, Bridge quits.Back at the mansion, Boomer designs new costumes for everybody. She even makes one for Feral. The idea is for uniforms that show each person's personality while still exuding a team dynamic. Warpath is pleased that he doesn't have those shoulder pads anymore and, despite the little extra skin showing, Cannonball likes his new zipper-friendly uniform. On the grounds, Professor Xavier finds Siryn enjoying the changing leaves. She mentions that the colors remind her of Ireland. Xavier asks why she doesn't go back to Muir Island. She reveals her true intentions for staying with X-Force: They are all dead inside, just like her. The Shadow King ripped her apart and this team affords her companionship that she can't find elsewhere. The positive side is that the team is starting to come alive together. It's this prospect that makes the team so exciting to her, as she has no idea where they will be taken.Back out at the boathouse, Cannonball meets up with Sunspot and tells him to get his gear ready; they are going to leave. With X-Force gathered in front of Xavier, Cannonball states that the team is ready to leave. The Professor tries to coax them into staying. Cannonball lectures. There can't just be two sides, the open hand and the closed fist. The closed hand is normally associated with violence and destruction. He demonstrates, however, that a closed fist can also hold and protect by producing a mouse from his hand. The open hand is normally a connotation of an extended hand in friendship. It can also be a way to inflict violence. Cannonball attempts to slap Xavier. Stopping him in time, Xavier sees the point and passively accepts Cannonball's views of black and white, and all the grays in between. He allows them to leave.Outside, Lila Cheney opens a portal to Camp Verde. As the team is stepping through, Xavier informs Cannonball that two of his teammates have stolen information from the X-Men. Shatterstar works out off to the side and gets annoyed by Feral's continued use of the name "Shattybuns." Fed up, Shatterstar walks to the team project and does a quick tune-up. Flustered, Cannonball asks why Shatterstar hadn't offered to fix the communications an hour ago. Simply, they didn't ask him to. After fifteen minutes or so, the machinery kicks to life and Lila is able to pick up some news. The team learns that a space station has been found. They immediately assume that it is Cable's old space base, Graymalkin. Cannonball doesn't hesitate when he orders the team to gear up. (Warpath, Boomer, and Siryn are out getting supplies.) In no time, Lila has the team teleported up. Cannonball agrees that the place looks like what Wolverine and Bishop described from their stay there. To clinch the fact that this is Cable's base, a voice greets Cannonball. The voice sounds familiar, like that of the old X-Factor Ship.Inside Tina Valentino's home, the proprietor once again tries to coax her guest out from her room. Tina tells Copycat that she's seen her in all kinds of morphs, this one can't be too odd. Copycat finally opens the door and steps out. Tina is flabbergasted. Copycat has morphed into a Tina duplicate.Down Under, Domino enters a bar. She spots a big guy in the corner and makes her way towards him. It's her old Six Pack pal, Grizzly. He mentions that he's out of the game and that's why he slinked away from the Weapon: PRIME debacle. Domino doesn't care. She needs help finding Cable's X-Force. He agrees to help.In a Swiss Alps mountain home, the External Nicodemus lies ill. Doctors have no clue what could be ailing him, as he seemed to have recently been in perfect health. One doctor notes that Nicodemus's temperature is rising and that Gideon should be summoned. Too late, as Nicodemus explodes into a fiery explosion that kills all the doctors. Gideon rushes to the room to find everyone dead, including Nicodemus, the first External to die.Back at Graymalkin, a SHIELD space craft approaches. On-board is Nick Fury, G.W. Bridge, Network Nina, and Alexander Pierce. Dubbed the Colombus Team, they leave their craft and float towards the behemoth space station. Bridge works on gaining access. Inside, Cannonball still can't believe that he's talking to Ship again - though he is told countless times that the name is Professor and not Ship. Cannonball rebuts this with facts about the Professor's past. Professor doesn't remember anything before the year 3761 AD. Before the debate can go any further, Professor announces a hull breach. X-Force gets a visual of Fury's team and heads out to take them on.Network Nina relates that her powers are useless due to an electromagnetic interference. This work for X-Force, as they are able to surprise the team with an ambush. Fury is the first hit. Bridge sees X-Force and shouts that Cable must be involved. Feral and Shatterstar correct him. They also take down Alexander and Nina. Bridge tries to come to his team's aid but is stopped by Rictor. This shocks him, as Rictor was on his team the last time SHIELD scuffled with X-Force. Regardless, Rictor knocks him out of the fight. Cannonball takes out Fury and X-Force regroups. They determine that they'd better leave before any reinforcements arrive.Reinforcements arrive. The team turns around to see War Machine.

Grade: VF

Note: Stock Image
Issue Number: 21
Release Date: 1993-04-30
Writer:
Artist:

Graymalkin is set to explode, and there's only one person besides Cable who can deactivate the ticking time bomb! Meanwhile, Deadpool is on the hunt for Vanessa and Tina…who hit the town as "twins"!War Machine is brought in by SHIELD to take out X-Force. X-Force puts up a good fight and wins. At Camp Verde, Siryn, Warpath, and Boomer are captured by the Externals. Like all of Cable's bases, Graymalkin blows up.Note: The cast of Cheers is seen in the bar Tina and Vanessa visit.SynopsisX-Force has taken down a small SHIELD unit to protect their old leader's property. With Cable dead, Graymalkin is ripe for the picking and War Machine is the next opponent to questions X-Force's right to claim any part of Cable's legacy. Never willing to be a team that rolls over, X-Force willingly takes on War Machine. As the fight commences, Cannonball blasts around and War Machine collapses part of the space station's structure on top of him. This damage causes an alarm to begin sounding. Sunspot and Rictor attack War Machine from two different angles. The metal man fights back by firing some rubber bullets at the team. This is already too hot for Lila Cheney and she teleports out of the fight. Professor alerts that his functions are incrementally decreasing and is approaching the need to purge his interior of any cause of problems (the people fighting). Fury doesn't help things by firing a huge gun at Feral, missing, and creating a big hole in a wall. As the dust from this blast settles, War Machine does a scan and fails to register any of the opposition. Shatterstar leaps from nowhere and engages War Machine.Elsewhere, Sunspot frees Cannonball from the rubble. Cannonball admits that he's fine and would have just normally blasted his way out but that he didn't want to cause any more structural damage. Smart, as Professor tells everyone that, coupled with the current damage, the Stark satellite that crashed into Graymalkin released an electromagnetic pulse and damaged it to the point that it needed to rid any anomalies. In sum, Graymalkin needs to self-destruct. Cannonball asks what can be done to prevent this and Professor explains that Cable could override the command if he were alive.Back at Camp Verde, Warpath, Boomer, and Siryn return from their trip to Phoenix. Seeing none of the teammates around, Siryn takes to the air. Still finding no one around, the trio heads to the bunker. The External Saul awaits them and takes them unawares with a blast. He mocks the notion that Gideon could find any threat in X-Force.Near Chicago, Domino and Grizzly visit the home of Hammer and his mother. Domino asks Hammer for help in locating Cable's team. Hammer is only interested if it involves killing Cable. Domino states this mission is not for revenge but for keeping Cable's legacy alive. On Graymalkin, Bridge confronts Cannonball and accuses him of causing this mess they are all in. Cannonball loses it and knocks the crap out of Bridge. He can't understand why no one will let them simply find Cable's stuff and be gone. At that point, a huge explosion rocks the space station. Cannonball and Sunspot fall to a lower level while the rest of the occupants brush the dust off. At this point, Lila Cheney reappears and offers to get everyone out of the station. Rictor suggests they find Fury's crew first.Below, Cannonball and Sunspot are led by Professor to the main control room of Graymalkin. Saving the station in its entirety is out of the question but there is a secondary override in place that could stop some of the more immediate problems within the base. Professor, sadly, doesn't know who has the authority to exercise this secondary override. Sunspot urges Cannonball to try. Sure enough, the name Samuel Guthrie works. The immediate self-destruct is overridden and Professor informs the two that certain things within the base must be exorcised before the base is able to re-cloak itself. Professor welcomes the help of two of Cable's "children." This term shocks Sunspot and Cannonball. In Boston, Tina Valentino and Copycat head out for a night on the town. Copycat has morphed into her friend and they pretend to be twins. They visit the Cheers bar and banter with Sam Malone. In India, Deadpool has finally found Tolliver's safehouse containing all the personnel files. He threatens a clerk after having already taken out a small army. The clerk is more than willing to help. He hands Deadpool a file and he gathers some clues as to where his old girl Copycat might be lurking. Boston looks good...Back on Graymalkin, Fury's team realizes that the station is coming apart. Fury calls to abort and Bridge, ever wishful to stick it to Cable, tries to stay. Fury orders everyone out. They spot X-Force and head over in hopes that Lila will be able to get them all to safety. In the control room, Cannonball decides to jettison a few things to Camp Verde. The weapons cache and the main cargo bay and sent off. The last thing to decide is what will happen with the Time Displacement Core. Cannonball chooses to drop it into the ocean. The team looks over the cache of weapons they recovered from Graymalkin. Domino and Grizzly meet resistance at Department K as they try to find Cable. X-Force finds out that Warpath, Siryn, and Boomer are captured by the Externals.SynopsisGraymalkin, Cable's old space station, seems to have blown up mere seconds ago. Fortunately for X-Force, and especially for Nick Fury's SHIELD team, Lila Cheney arrived in time to teleport the two teams out - first to a Skrull brothel and then to the SHIELD ship. G.W. Bridge makes a move and attempts to arrest X-Force. Lila helps him see his mistake by teleporting X-Force away, leaving Bridge to continue his seething over Cable's affairs. Fury is just glad no one ended up with any of Cable's stuff.Outside and hurling through space, Cannonball and Sunspot huddle together in a Graymalkin escape pod. Professor is still on-line and informs the two that his ability to communicate with them will cease once they reach Earth. It was always the goal to prevent anyone from getting access to Professor and his resources and that is why Graymalkin was made to look as if it completely exploded. Professor had actually made it look that way, jettisoned the two mutants out, and recloaked. Professor would actually still be functioning on Graymalkin. This still doesn't bring much comfort to Cannonball and Sunspot. More discomfort comes from the realization that things are getting hotter as they approach Earth's atmosphere. Cannonball readies his blast field to protect the two from burnout but Professor had anticipated this and enacts a glider to smooth their pod into the atmosphere. In Oregon, the External Saul looks at Boomer, Warpath, and Siryn. The three are shackled to the bottom of a cliff, a position that allows the ocean to crash on them. Saul apologizes for the horrible accommodation but assures them that he respects them enough to know that this is the best way to detain them. Gideon then shows up and threatens the three with immortal anguish. At Camp Verde, Lila teleports the team in. They don't know the fate of Cannonball and Sunspot and also don't know if Siryn, Boomer, and Warpath are back from their trip yet. Feral goes to sniff around while Lila and Shatterstar turn on their communications equipment. Feral returns and claims that no one is around. Lila also has bad news: foreign objects are headed their direction. Feral corrects her: foreign objects have already arrived. X-Force rushes out to confront the aerial visitors. One pod lands and Shatterstar quickly shreds into it. He, Feral, and Rictor stand menacingly around the opening while Cannonball and Sunspot tenderly crawl out. Cannonball can't accept Professor leaving and tries to hook him up to a power source. It is fruitless; Cable's legacy, however, arrives just then. Weapons and vehicles in various caches land in Camp Verde.Up north in Canada, Department K has two visitors. General Clarke and Val Cooper walk to the Operations Maintenance Room and break in. The image inducers fail upon entering the room. What looked to be Clarke and Cooper ends up being Grizzly and Domino. They complain about the close call but Hammer just tells them to suck it up and get to work. Domino begins hacking into the system to find any info on Cable and his X-Force team. With too much encryption and not enough time, Hammer tells her to dump everything into his system. She does so and then realizes that she and Grizzly are no longer the only occupants of the room. They turn to find a fresh Weapon: PRIME unit ready to give battle. In Boston, Tina Valentino and Copycat (morphed as Tina) continue their night out on the town. They stop by a jewelry store and Copycat proposes a quick little heist. Before any decision can be made, Deadpool shows up and takes a swing at the ladies. Copycat acts quickly and knocks the merc down and she and Tina make a run for it. Tina is slower and that proves to be her demise. She is shot by a big guy named Sluggo. Copycat leans over the body of her dead friend while Deadpool shouts that Sluggo had better of hit the right girl.Back at Camp Verde, X-Force unpacks all the freshly acquired hardware. Guns abound, as to assault vehicles. Sunspot goes looking for Cannonball. Lila finds him first and announces that she is leaving. As she does so, Sunspot announces that they've got trouble. A communication that has been running for a while pops up on one of their screens. Saul introduces himself and shows that he has Siryn, Boomer, and Warpath as his hostages. Domino fights Weapon Prime with the help of Grizzly and Hammer. She then finds Copycat and learns how to find Cable's old team. X-Force defeats the Externals and tells them to never mess with X-Force again.SynopsisUnder cover of night, Feral, Rictor, Shatterstar, and Sunspot gather outside the backdoor entrance to St. Anthony's Hospital. Rictor vibes the door open and the team sneaks through the building. They find their intended room and prepare for a potential scuffle within. All they find upon bursting through the door is a completely bandaged person. The mini-X-Force unit takes this person to their aircraft and demand information. The person is obstinate. Shatterstar threatens the person's life while Rictor uses diplomacy: X-Force wants information on the Externals so that they can take the faction down one by one. This is something the person wants. The bandages are pulled down to reveal Crule's face. He agrees to give X-Force everything it needs. In Camp Verde, Cannonball watches the proceedings with Crule while having a discussion with Professor Xavier. Xavier has never heard any facts regarding the Externals and had always shunted any rumor of them to the side. Cannonball confirms that the faction is a legitimate threat. Cannonball then states that X-Force is at odds with the Externals but that he is helpless to do anything, as he swore to never get entangled in their affairs again. He wonders, should he break his oath? Xavier reminds Cannonball that this delicate line-stepping was Cannonball's own fault. He also assures the young mutant that he'll make the right decision.Up north in a Department K records room, Domino and Grizzly face off against the newest incarnation of Weapon: PRIME. Grizzly, having briefly been a part of the team some time before, gives Domino the rundown of each person, minus the new super smiley guy. Domino hides behind Grizzly while Hammer tries to give them information on fighting or escaping. As he looks at Department K's schematics he notices that the super smiley guy is right behind Domino. He orders her to duck. Killjoy introduces himself while Domino blasts him in the face with a magnesium flare. Hammer tells the duo to escape through an air conditioning duct just above them. Weapon: PRIME has a difficult time following them until the smoke clears. Domino and Grizzly learn that they are not escaping through a vent but a sewage line; it is effective, however, and the two reach Hammer in the parked Winnebago. Hammer hits the gas as the Canadian super-team emerges. Tigerstryke attempts to catch them but is thwarted when the old vehicle turns into a jet and flies away. Tigerstryke promises that they will track the three down. This never happens.Down in Oregon, Gideon assures Saul that X-Force will come for their teammates. The two then ponder the affairs of the world and how the roles of the Externals seems to be diminishing. They are particularly concerned about the "natural" death of Nicodemus. Saul states that the answer to their problems may lie with Cannonball, the latest "member" of the External family. Below, Boomer, Warpath, and Siryn are still held captive by shackles against a cliff with half of their bodies submerged in the ocean. In the air, X-Force makes their way towards the mansion housing Saul and Gideon. Crule informs them of the natural defenses the landscape offers the estate. The team agrees upon a full-out assault. Crule further states that, thought the Externals may be immortal, they are still susceptible to physical defeat. The team lands a short distance from the estate and enters one of Cable's futuristic tanks. Avoiding any semblance of secrecy, the tank crashes into the side of Saul's home. The two Externals are taken unawares. Rictor and Feral subdue Saul while Sunspot very gladly takes out Gideon.Back at the home of Tina Valentino's, Copycat (still in the form of Tina) quickly packs her bags. She is stopped cold when Deadpool puts a very large gun to her head. Deadpool proposes a talk right before he and Sluggo get pummeled from behind by Domino. Copycat had avoided the gun blast but now faces a very angry Domino. Domino reminds Copycat that she was held prisoner for over a year while Copycat traipsed around pretending to be Domino. To avoid getting killed, Copycat lets it slip that she knows where Cable's X-Force is holed up.In the lavish home of Saul, X-Force has freed their friends while Sunspot gloats of Gideon's all too effective lessons of hostile take-overs. Gideon is actually pleased to see Sunspot alive, as that means that the tests that were run on the boy were a success. He does relate some feelings of disappointment, however, in the tactless manner in which X-Force has attacked the estate. Saul proposes a stalemate. Sunspot then shows Gideon a letter written by Cannonball. Cannonball states that he'd kept his promise to stay out of the External's affairs; he'd never included X-Force into that promise. As X-Force leaves, Saul whines that all these machinations were simply to lure in Cannonball so as to study him and find the secret to staying immortal. Shatterstar simply states that if the Externals keep messing with them, death will be inevitable anyway. It was really #85.SynopsisA goverVFent transport vehicle is stopped in New Jersey by a woman who looks an absolute mess. The guards exit their vehicle and inform the woman that they can only call for help, as they can't stop too long. The woman quickly zaps the men with an electro-magnetic scrambling pulse. The men are effectually taken out. Men in black clothes emerge from the shadows and pump the transport vehicle with armor piercing shells. They get through and see that the extra men on transport duty are unconscious. One of the black suited men steps forward and addresses the two people being transported. He states that while some people are willing to look to the side while the mutants terrorize the world that Friends of Humanity are not willing to do the same. He then takes Rusty and Skids into custody to pay for their acts of terrorism against humans. At Camp Verde, Cannonball watches while the rest of X-Force returns with Siryn, Boomer, and Warpath (recently rescued from the Externals). After ensuring that everyone is okay, Cannonball has everyone suit up. Feral can't believe that they have another mission and Cannonball assures her it is to help friends. As the former captives get changed, Cannonball says that they need to ready their IPAC by removing Crule so they can rescue Rusty and Skids. Rictor and Sunspot have to admit that they have already removed Crule from the IPAC. They were afraid that Crule would sufficiently heal while in their custody so they dumped him in the Pacific Ocean. But not to worry - is body cast floats. When everyone is ready Cannonball tells them that the Friends of Humanity, an upstart anti-mutant group, has taken their friends into custody. Sunspot seeks clarification: weren't Rusty and Skids pardoned due to being brainwashed? While this is true, it's a delicate situation and that's why Professor Xavier wanted to include them in the rescue.Val Cooper can't believe that Professor Xavier thought it best to include X-Force in rescuing Rusty and Skids. Xavier explains that X-Factor couldn't do it - you can't have goverVFent issue mutants taking down a group of humans. Also, the X-Men are too scattered to muster for the mission. Val eventually agrees that they have no choice but hopes that X-Force will do an effective job so as not to exacerbate mutant/human relations. In Massachusetts, Domino is being restrained by Grizzly. Having found Copycat, Domino wants nothing more than to put a bullet in her brain. Copycat, however, is able to help these members of Six Pack find X-Force. Before they head out, Copycat puts a few more laser blasts into Sluggo and Deadpool. Domino and Grizzly are shocked out how Copycat could just cold-bloodedly shoot the two mercenaries. Copycat explains that it would take a lot more these blasts to kill the two; she just bought them some time. The troupe leaves in Hammer's Winnebago jet.Out in space, just beyond Earth, a man floats towards infinity. He stretches forth his hand and magnetically alters an invisible shield around Graymalkin. The man, Magneto, smiles, as he's just found a new home.On their way to save Rusty and Skids, X-Force watches Trish Tilby explain the events surrounding the arrest of Rusty and Skids. Cannonball then reveals that Rusty and Skids were actually being transported to Xavier's school for treatment. He then relates that this mission is a touchy one; they can't be too rough on the humans because that would simply strengthen the argument against mutants; and they can't be too soft because they have to save their friends. Landing on Plum Island, Cannonball splits the team into two with Rictor as point of the second unit. Siryn has a problem with this, as she usually acted as the second unit leader under Cable. He apologizes. The two units strike at once and surprise the Friends of Humanity. They locate Rusty and Skids (who are still very brainwashed) while doing a thorough search of the house. With the mission so easily over, Cannonball has some time to talk with Boomer about mutant and human relations. If mutants really aren't welcome on Earth then where can they go? Reignfire gives Cable an ultimatum- join his team or die!Reignfire makes his move against Henry Peter Gyrich. In taking the man captive, the MLF sees the new techno-organic contructs the goverVFent is working on. X-Force is the only unit that can take the assigVFent, so they attack the new MLF base. Their hopes of rescuing Gyrich is thrown a monkey wrench when they realize that a former friend has aligned herself with Reignfire.SynopsisThe Mutant Liberation Front attacks Henry Peter Gyrich's home and Wildside is more than happy to kill one of the guards. This doesn't sit well with the entire team. As they pause to discuss the issue Gyrich sends his latest toy to deal with the four MLF members. The toy is a cyborg named Hardaway, a former man who had watched his family killed by mutants. His attack is swift and he seems to have a counter for each member of the MLF. At one point he grabs Tempo and almost crushes her in his grasp until Moonstar and Locus show up as reinforcements. Moonstar shoots him with a psionic arrow to debilitate him. Locus then phases his legs into a tree, killing him instantly. Despite her gratitude, Tempo can't help but disapprove of Locus's methods. Locus blows her off and phases into Gyrich's house, kills a guard, and phases back out with Gyrich in tow. Gyrich is enraged at how the MLF is wantonly killing people. Forearm pulls out some of Hardaway's guts to show Gyrich that his people are perversions. The MLF then phase to their base with Gyrich as their prisoner. In Washington, D.C., a secret meeting is being held between Nick Fury, Professor Xavier, Valerie Cooper, and Forge. They all recognize that the situation with Gyrich is a sensitive one. It's too soon for the X-Men to go on a mission; X-Factor can't go save Gyrich because they can't be seen as a goverVFent entity of mutants saving a mutant hater; SHIELD and the Avengers can't go. Good thing Cable has patched into this secret conclave. He shuts down the transmission and opts to have X-Force do this dirty work. The MLF base is in the Bermuda Triangle. Tempo goes off alone to clear her head but gets tailed by Moonstar. Despite Tempo's reservations about the team's methods, Moonstar assures her that mutant salvation is of the utmost importance. Inside the base, Reignfire goes and formally meets Gyrich. Reignfire affirms that he is all for mutantkind at whatever cost to humans.Just outside the base, X-Force has split into three teams. Cannonball's team begins the attack by blasting through the doors and immediately attacking the first person they see. That person happens to be Moonstar and she gets a psionic arrow into Cannonball. She then approaches the rest of the sub-team and they realize that the attacker is none other than their old friend Dani Moonstar. At another part of the base, Siryn, Warpath, and Shatterstar blast through a wall. Warpath takes on Forearm while Shatterstar and Siryn confront Reaper and Wildside. Shatterstar gets the upper hand on Reaper and cuts off a limb before moving in for the kill. Wildside stops him, however, by threatening to pull out Siryn's throat.Deep inside the base, Cable and Feral find Gyrich's cell. Sunspot and Boomer are afraid to retaliate in case Moonstar actually is their old friend Dani Moonstar. This same reservation doesn't stop Moonstar from hitting Boomer with an arrow. Sunspot throws friendship to the wind and fires back with a solar blast. Locus tries to teleport Sunspot away but he counters her and the fight becomes a jumbled mess.Outside, Feral and Gyrich make their way to the IPAC. Gyrich, however, can't help but push Feral's buttons and she snaps. Tempo shows up just as Feral leaps to kill Gyrich and slows time to get Gyrich clear. Things once again become a jumbled mess when each fight around the base makes its way outside. Amidst the ruckus Reignfire once again finds Feral and further prompts her to choose his side. Sadly, she decides to do so and once again lunges at Gyrich to kill him. She is stopped, however, by a shot from Cable who is truly sad to see one of this charges defect. Reignfire calls for a retreat while abandoning Tempo. He orders Moonstar and Locus to enjoy some target practice on Gyrich. Sunspot exerts himself and manages to fly. He gets in the way of the attacks. The feedback from Locus, however, causes she and Sunspot to disappear. Warpath enlists an old friend of Siryn's to get her help. An alliance is made between Warpath and Juggernaut, as each only wants what is best for their friends. In the end, Black Tom's origin is discussed and both he and Siryn are able to get a little closure.SynopsisWarpath and Siryn have been in Ireland for two weeks and Warpath feels like he is spinning his wheels in helping Siryn exorcise some of her demons. He turns to one of Siryn's childhood friends, a reporter named Kelvin Doneghann. The two can't discuss much of Siryn's problems because neither has ever known how to approach them. Instead, the conversation turns to Siryn's uncle (or, more appropriately, her second cousin) Black Tom Cassidy and his current status as a runaway criminal after blasting the family lawyer into a temporary residency in the local hospital. At the family home, Siryn shrieks through the garden. It had been one of Black Tom's favorite places and she guiltily relished the idea of destroying something so easily that took painstaking effort to make in the first place. She passes out. Warpath finds her and carries her inside and puts her to bed. Hours later, Siryn wakes up and scolds Warpath for meddling. He is very frank with her, however, and asks how she can expect help from her friends when she has already given up on herself. In a pub, Kelvin meets with the Juggernaut to learn more about Black Tom. The men begin rehashing the history of the Cassidys. Both Sean and Tom were in love with Maeve Rourke but Tom's life was too carefree and Maeve ended up marrying Sean. Sean soon became an INTERPOL agent. Maeve had a child and died before Sean came back from one of his missions and Tom kept the baby hidden from Sean as a sense of revenge, especially after Sean blamed Tom for failing to protect Maeve. Tom then turned to a life of crime while trying to shield the child - Theresa - from his lifestyle. At Cassidy Keep, Siryn explains to Warpath how she became burdened with her drinking problem. As she got older Tom felt that he couldn't continue hiding his life from Siryn and he shipped her off to a boarding school. Siryn began drinking with some of the girls and began to enjoy the feeling of self-destruction. She blamed herself for Tom's criminal activity and continued drinking to escape. In Kelvin's office, a FAX comes through from the French laboratory that worked on Black Tom. Kelvin discovers that Black Tom is slowly deteriorating, which could be the cause of his recent lapses in judgement. He commits to helping by enlisting Warpath to meet with the Juggernaut. The men meet in a church and call a truce. Warpath informs the Juggernaut about Black Tom's condition and the deal the goverVFent is willing to cut upon Black Tom's surrender - they'll give him the care he needs to survive. The Juggernaut agrees to deliver Black Tom to the one place he knows that Tom won't put up a fight.Maeve Rourke Cassidy's grave: Siryn says a few words before Black Tom reveals himself. The two have a mildly heated discussion about Black Tom's motives, but Siryn is ultimately successful in getting him to admit that he has been largely responsible for how he approached life. Siryn determines to take control of her own life and dumps her liquor. Black Tom follows suit and allows himself to be taken to jail. Warpath and the Juggernaut meet one last time and the Juggernaut asks if Warpath is ready to give up a romantic relationship with Siryn since she seems to be looking out for herself now. The New Warriors confront Creed and also draw closer to learning the truth behind the Younghunt. Those captured wake up to a Hellions/New Mutants reunion, but the Gamesmaster is more than willing to ruin the moment. Warpath captures him and presses the little guy, Bantam, for information. Bantam finds portals for Fitzroy to travel through. All Fitzroy needs to do is absorb a person's essence to power up the portal. Warpath calls Cable over and the two agree that they should take a portal to find the people responsible for the Younghunt. Cable first calls out to Rictor and Siryn to fluctuate their powers to find the frequency on which Fitzroy's suit operates. He then synthetically covers his techno-organic arm. Once Fitzroy's suit is no longer protected, Cable takes a swing at Fitzroy. Fitzroy grabs Cable's arm and attempts to suck the life out of Cable. Rictor must abandon his family again since he won't condone the family business of dealing in guns.SynopsisIn Shinobi Shaw's Swiss chalet, Dani Moonstar removes her mask in front of her friends. They are shocked to see that it is really her and somewhat disappointed that she both chose to join the Mutant Liberation Front and not tell them she was back from Asgard. Moonstar merely states that she has her reasons for being with the MLF. X-Force allows her to depart. As Moonstar leaves, Shatterstar approaches Rictor and informs him about a news story on television. Rictor takes a look and finds that his uncle and cousin got shot up in Mexico. Shatterstar inquires as to Rictor's past and learns that Rictor is the son of an arms dealer. Rictor admits that, despite how he feels about his family, he's got to return home to support his gun-running family. In the kitchen, Cable tries to talk Paige Guthrie into returning to her farm because he doesn't have the tools to train her. She refuses. She also admits that she doesn't want Cable's help, she wants help from Charles Xavier.Outside, Magma breaks it to Empath that she is not returning to Brazil. Empath is hurt, as he thought the two of them shared something special. Magma reminds him that the only reason they did was because he manipulated her mind. He leaves in a huff and X-Force offers Magma a ride to England (her recently discovered real home) on their way to the United States.Cable and Domino accompany Rictor to Mexico. The leaders wait outside for two reasons: 1) Give Rictor some privacy with his family. 2) Cable looks like Stryfe, who killed Rictor's father. Rictor is warmly welcomed by his family and chats with them for about a half hour. The reunion is broken up, however, when a relative sees Cable and confronts him. The entire Richter family rushes out side and pulls a gun on Cable (thinking Stryfe has returned to kill them all). Rictor shakes everyone to their senses and then leaves, expressing his disgust for the family business.Rictor visits his cousin Omar at the hospital before leaving town. They find the body of Martin Henry Strong in stasis but not the information they are looking for. A Dr. Crispin confronts the mutants and is surprised that they know about the Intellect Chip that she holds. Shatterstar grabs the chip and Dr. Crispin tells the two that she is just doing her job.Elsewhere, Rictor and Warpath continue their task of the surveillance of Dr. Bougred Suntas. They get the word that Domino and Shatterstar got the Intellect Chip and that they are to move on Suntas. They tail him and Rictor pops the doctor's tire. He and Warpath then jump to the rescue and fix the tire, all while swiping information needed regarding the Intellect Chip.In Washington D.C., Cable meets with Forge concerning the Intellect Chip. Cable gives Forge a peak at the schematics and Forge is stunned at the complexity of the technology, stating that such should not be possible for another twenty-five years. At Harvard, Siryn and Banshee have a little heart to heart in which they realize that their relationship will likely never reach that of father and daughter. He then explains how Nimrod is responsible for the deaths of countless mutants in the future and why the there is the need to snuff out the program before it becomes operable. X-Force agrees to help infiltrate Camp Hayden and neutralize the threat. For once, X-Force goes in quiet. Siryn takes out any guards with a high-pitched pulse that sends them all to sleep. Rictor vibes any weapons and renders them ineffective. All appears to go well until it doesn't. Nimrod awakens itself and begins to attack the mutants. Cable's techno-virus flares up. The Externals return.SynopsisDomino and Cable are the only mutants left standing in the battle against Nimrod. The rest of X-Force lie in the rubble of the fight. The two present humans, Dr. Hawkins-Mailer and Dr. Wilker, are astounded that Nimrod is sentient and has weaponry that they did not install. Cable is taken down with aerial drones and Domino is left to fend for herself. Her power to have things fall in place for her confuses Nimrod, as any direct attempts to destroy Domino are futile. Nimrod adapts, however, and makes his primary target Domino's surroundings, which effectively injures her. Before Nimrod can exterminate Domino, however, Cable blasts the sentinel with a telekinetic blast and Shatterstar flies in unexpectedly and takes a slice at Nimrod with his sword. The three mutants then work together to attack Nimrod and manage to attach an explosive. Siryn hits Nimrod with a scream and X-Force notes that it has bought itself a few minutes of respite while Nimrod fixes itself.Cable comes up with a plan to access Nimrod's consciousness. He links up with the minds of Dr. Hawkins-Mailer and Dr. Wilker in order to navigate the ins and outs of Nimrod's technology, while also using his his own techno-organic parts to access Nimrod's subnet. The result is the ability to access the astral plane and Nimrod's "mind". Cable's arm goes haywire and Nimrod states that it is because Cable is a man out of time. Cable turns this logic on Nimrod and asks it what its purpose is. Nimrod explains that it exists to protect humans. Cable reasons that since Nimrod is not supposed to be created until 60 years in the future then human casualties would be multiplied, thereby going against Nimrod's programming. Nimrod does the math and discovers that Cable is right, Nimrod would do more damage than good in being around earlier. Nimrod shuts itself down.Outside the astral plane, Cable and the X-Force pack up. Saul believes that Apocalypse could use some perspective and shows him an alien ship, proving that Apocalypse is not at well-rounded as he thought. Enamored with the ship, Apocalypse stabs Saul and leaves him to enter the ship.Saul explains that the point of his story is that there is always someone more powerful than you. Cannonball is confused as to why the Externals are on his farm and teaching him life lessons. Absalom grows tired of the talking and gets aggressive with Boomer. She blasts him in the face and he grows spikes from his body in retaliation. Gideon steps in and stops Absalom, who admits that his impatience stems from him dying from the Legacy Virus.Absalom then begins his own story:In the Old West, Absalom was a bad man and shot and killed an old legend in cold blood. He was meant to hang for his crimes, but his mutant powers manifested while in the hangman's noose and spikes shot out of his body. The locals panicked and shot Absalom to death. He later awakened in a wood coffin and swore he would do better with his new life.Saul explains that Absalom learned a new perspective on the day he was reawakened, in that of being self-aware. Cannonball can't believe that he is supposed to think highly of Absolam after hearing that he is a confessed murderer. He isn't even sure that he wants to be associated with the Externals after hearing some of these stories. Gideon asks Cannonball for patience, as the Externals have approached him to get hope.At Camp Verde, Cable interrupts Domino's bath to ask her to investigate some locations for a new base of operations. In South Bronx, a bum stumbles upon a crime scene. Detective Hidalgo gets the call and believes that he has finally found something to pin Feral and her sister with in the murder of their family.Back at the Guthrie Farm, Cannonball seeks some clarification, as he isn't sure how much hope he can give the Externals. Boomer steps in and reminds Gideon of how the Externals kidnapped her and her teammates to force Cannonball to join the Externals. Gideon brushes this off and relates his own story:Gideon was a deckhand on the Pinta as it sailed to the Americas with Christopher Columbus. He contracted scurvy and was thrown below deck with the other afflicted people. He died and came back to life and vowed to use any means necessary to rise to financial power. He entered the Americas and watched it take shape while doing some of the shaping on his own.Cannonball still can't see how he is to offer the Externals hope, as they all seem so self-involved and power-hungry. Absalom states that Burke prophesied before he died at the hands of the Legacy Virus that Cannonball would be instrumental in curing the Legacy Virus. Cannonball sees little hope for the Externals. In his mind, the Lord never meant for anyone to live forever and all the Externals have done with their time on Earth is think of themselves. Absalom in enraged and his tantrum sends his powers into overdrive, contorting his body into an awful shape. Cannonball puts up a blast field to protect everyone from any harm and Absalom's body finally gives out and he collapses to the ground.Gideon sees that Absalom is still alive and wonders if there may be hope left in the few words Cannonball has said. Gideon asks Cannonball what defining moment has given Cannonball the hope he has. Cannonball explains that he likes to think that he hasn't had that moment yet, which gives him hope for what is to come. Douglock has transported Cannonball, Wolfsbane, and Forge to the Italian Alps in hopes to stop the Phalanx from taking the next step in assimilating the earth. They learn of the motives of the Phalanx and try to infiltrate the covenant by being infected with the transmode virus. In France, Moira has been able to track the Phalanx and the remaining X-Members split up to try to stop the Phalanx by force. To be continued in Excalibur #82.SynopsisDouglock has brought Forge, Wolfsbane, and Cannonball to the Italian Alps, as this is where he says the biggest Phalanx threat is located. Cannonball doesn't see it and, again, demands answers. Forge and Wolfsbane side with Douglock and the four enter a village in search of the Phalanx. Forge projects a hologram onto the troupe so as to mask their appearances. This means little if the Phalanx is present, as it can likely sense Douglock's presence. At Mont Saint Francis, the rest of X-Force, X-Factor, and Excalibur try to figure out the Phalanx. Moira MacTaggart is busy running painful tests - tests she hates to run on her friends but knows the sacrifice is worth the pain inflicted - on mutants she knows that has come into contact with the transmode virus.Elsewhere, Professor Xavier is sifting through the Astral Plane in an attempt to locate his missing friends. He locates Forge and merges their minds. The Professor is in awe at seeing the Phalanx as Forge does, not as an entity, but as the foundation for a reality far superior than the present. Douglock enters the subconscious with Forge and the Professor so as to let them see what he sees. The group finds a towering "nursery conduit", a breeding ground for the new, independent Phalanx. And it is beautiful to them. But a young Phalanx hatches and latches onto Forge and the Professor sees that Forge is no longer afraid of the Phalanx threat but may be willing to succumb to it.The Professor returns to his body and alerts the others that the threat may be far greater than he had hoped, as the Phalanx are not just trying to assimilate mutants, but that they are trying to call their race to Earth in order to assimilate everything. The teams split, with one staying behind to guard Moira MacTaggart and her ongoing research and one moving out to the Alps to take out the Phalanx stronghold. In the Alps, Cannonball has done his best to free Forge from the newborn Phalanx and encourages the team to leave the area. Douglock has other plans, however, as he wants to cloak each person with the transmode virus in order to get them team close enough to destroy the Babel Spire. Cannonball resists, but Wolfsbane shows her trust and allows herself to be infected. She immediately appreciates Forge's views on the Phalanx. Cable's Techno-virus is going out of control because Prosh drains the power that keeps Cable alive. It is decided that Prosh must go, but to do so he must take the network and much of the base.SynopsisFresh from her mission to scout new locations for a new X-Force hideout, Domino enters the tunnels beneath Camp Verde to find that she is not alone. She goes topside to find the intruder and is nearly crushed by a goofy-looking metal man. After a quick exchange, Domino realizes that the person is none other than Professor, the sentient program that has run Cable's cybernetic systems since he was a child. Professor - or "Prosh" now - collapses after having run his battery cell dry attempting to fly.Prosh wakes up to find X-Force gathered around him. He learns that Domino dragged him into the bunker and plugged him into the power supply. He then relates how he got his body: A Phalanx member infiltrated the bunker and attempted to infiltrate the cybernet but found the overflow of information contained by Professor far too much for the one body. The Phalanx died, but it's body remained, and Prosh was born. His exuberance at having his own body prompted him to run about madcap, which ultimately drained his energy. While Prosh gets cozy with the team, Shatterstar notes something discouraging. Despite Prosh needing a high volume of energy, diagnostics shows that no power is being drained. Cable can't believe it, and he also can't believe that Shatterstar knows how to read fusion energy drainage systems. Prosh vouches for Shatterstar's intelligence and the team decides that they may need to conserve some energy to keep Prosh going, just in case something is interfering with the drainage-reading equipment. Cable welcomes Prosh to X-Force.Days pass and X-Force gets some rest and relaxation in while they get used to their new teammate. Siryn goes out to find herself right in the middle of a football game. Warpath tackles her and then makes a move to kiss her. Siryn hesitates, and Warpath is hit in the head with the football. Domino watches this all from a distance. Cable calls her out for avoiding the team and she admits that she feels skittish when having to keep something from the team; it wasn't too long ago that X-Force thought that Copycat was the real Domino. Cable understands but asks that Domino keep his secret until they can find some evidence that Prosh's presence is killing Cable. He emerges from a tunnel with his metal parts covered in sharp obtrusions. Clearly something is interfering with Cable's ability to keep his body in check.Later, Shatterstar discovers that a very high pitched frequency is scrambling all the electronics. Cannonball and Warpath find that the IPAC is covered in sharp "zits". This is enough for Cable and Domino to go to Prosh and inform him that he is ruining everything, even endangering Cable's life. The team is pretty bent out of shape at Cable's condition and Prosh's negative impact. Prosh wants to discorporate and put himself fully back into the computers. Cable won't have it, as Prosh just only found life. The solution becomes that Prosh will leave and travel the cosmos, but he has to take every piece of equipment necessary to keep him alive and charged. This will put X-Force at a disadvantage, as most of their equipment and information will be taken, as well as a large part of their base. They reluctantly agrees that Prosh will have to go.Once Prosh has accumulated his equipment he rockets off into space. Cable begins to feel better the further Prosh gets, which is a bittersweet feeling. He and Domino hold hands and the team looks onto the crater that was once their headquarters. Feral spits out that Thornn should have been a better big sister by protecting the family. She then takes Hidalgo up the fire escape to the rooftop. On the roof, Feral is content to discuss the deaths of her family members:Carolina was young and fell down the stairs. Thornn was supposed to be watching her but went out to play with Hidalgo and his friends. Feral claims it was a complete accident. Hidalgo remembers that Feral seemed to be smiling when she saw her sister's death.Feral had a pigeon coop on the roof. Matteo loved chasing the birds and one day tripped off the roof. Feral watched her brother struggle and eventually fall. She felt that if he wasn't strong enough to pull himself up then he wasn't fit to remain in the family. Harry Bellinger was Marcella Callasantos's boyfriend. He introduced Feral's mother to harder drugs and would try and molest Feral and Thornn when their mom would pass out. One night he had drug Thornn into an alley when she was seventeen, but he was stopped from doing anything when Feral showed up and ripped his face off. The sisters hid his body in the walls of an abandoned building.Marcella Callasantos was angry at Feral for killing Harry, so she killed Feral's pigeons. Feral killed her mother out of pure hatred. With the truth out, Feral lunges at Cannonball to rip into him. Unaware of his enhanced powers, Feral is blasted away from him and arrested by Hidalgo. The news reports that the Mutant Liberation Front, the terrorist organization of which Feral is a part, concocted the whole abduction of Thornn and Hidalgo. Thornn is released from custody. Cannonball is unclear on how the MLF got dragged into the mix, although he does admit that redirecting the conversation from the dangers of all mutants to just terrorist mutants is a stroke of genius. Cable explains that Dani Moonstar was responsible for feeding Feral lies about how the Friends of Humanity were going to execute Thornn at her old house and this drew Feral out of hiding. Cannonball sees Dani and asks how she can betray her new team. Dani explains that she is a big believer in the truth. She then flies away on Brightwind.

Grade: VF

Note: Stock Image
Issue Number: 42
Release Date: 1995-01-01
Writer:
Artist:

Warpath learns the Hellfire Club was not responsible for the butchering of his people. Warpath and Emma Frost have a very lengthy discussion that boils down to: The Hellions did not kill Warpath's people so Warpath should direct his anger elsewhere. Also: Since revenge is no longer his reason to say with X-Force, his only reason for doing so is because he wants to.During all this talking, Siryn and Banshee also do some talking as they catch up with each other. The finding comes too late, as reality is ripped apart and the Age of Apocalypse begins.SynopsisCannonball runs a holographic recreation of the moment his best friend, Sunspot, went missing during a fight with the MLF's Locus. Later, Beast has found some oddities with Shatterstar and conducts further tests while Cable and the rest of the boys head to Siberia to find out what happened to one of Xavier's underground outposts. The Mimic happened.SynopsisBoomer is up at midnight doing something she knows she'd get busted for. She puts some milk in a bowl and walks to the Danger Room. She drops the bowl upon arrival, as she sees that the main controls have been damaged and that Caliban is below beating the crap out of Sabretooth. She tries her best to get Caliban's attention, but he is blood-lusted and looking for revenge (Sabretooth was part of the Marauders that killed the majority of the Morlocks). Cable arrives and does a quick fix for the control panels and changes the scene to the Morlock Tunnels. Cable then telepathically debates with Caliban the justice in killing a seemingly docile Sabretooth. Caliban, thrown off by the new surroundings and the realization that Sabretooth seems incapable of fighting back, releases his foe and commits to cleaning up his mess. Boomer is chastised for her desire to socialize with Sabretooth. The next day, Sunspot continues exploring the boundaries of his new flying powers. Warpath trains with Caliban and asks if the mutant tracker will help locate Siryn, who has been missing for a few days. Caliban refuses, as he doesn't want to get into any more trouble with Cable. Professor Xavier gives X-Force a mission to contact a monitoring station in Russia that has gone offline. Cable swings by the medical wing to see if Shatterstar is up for the mission. Shatterstar is more than happy to go, but Beast says he would like an opportunity to study Shatterstar a bit more. Boomer hears that Shatterstar gets a pass and very unconvincingly asks to stay back due to the flu. Cable allows it. (She of course just wants some time with her newly-minted X-Man boyfriend Cannonball, but he has to head out on a mission, so her ruse was almost pointless.)In Russia, Cable and the rest of the team finds that the monitoring site isn't just offline, but that there is a huge crater in the middle of the community. Lastly, Siryn is undercover, but her mission is long over and there is still no one to bust her out.SynopsisAt the Weisman Institute for the Criminally Insane, Siryn breaks into the director's office to dig up some information. She is caught, however, and tries to come clean by mentioning that Professor Xavier was curious as to why the facility had stopped communicating. Dr. Weisman herself gives no answers but has the young mutant forcibly taken back to her room.In Siberia, X-Force begin a fight with the Mimic. It does not go well, as Caliban gets blasted by an optic beam, Warpath gets through through the Pacrat, and Cable is momentarily fazed by the telepathic strain and feedback. Cable gets a sense that there has been a misunderstanding, as the Mimic seems to be reacting to the attack on the monitoring station, as opposed to being the cause. He hears Siryn scream in her sleep (which blasts a hole in the side of the building) and rushes to see if she is alright. She says she is, but she can't seem to shake this dream of being imprisoned with Deadpool somehow being involved.Outside New York City, Warpath continues to test the limits of his powers by going for a very, very fast run. Cops clock him at 93 miles per hour. He arrives at a field of junk, which he learned about from a mysterious communication. He is confused, as he was hoping Siryn has sent the message. Instead, a car is thrown on him. He tosses it easily to the side and finds an enigmatic young woman named Risque. She deftly approaches him, kisses him, then leaves. In Boomer's room, Boomer burns keepsakes and begins cutting her hair. Cannonball tries to get in but she blows him off. Domino, Meltdown, and Siryn confront the Blob and see a few more clues about Onslaught. Sunspot and Caliban witness the death of the External Gideon.SynopsisAt Camp Hayden, Domino leads Siryn and Meltdown through the facilities to follow up and make sure that the Nimrod project really got scrapped. The three are able to break in but are surprised to find that the whole place is completely empty. They are also surprised to see the word "Onslaught" spray painted on a wall. They are mostly surprised to find a huger, power-augmented Blob. The ladies initiate a fight, but Blob takes them out easily. At Xavier's Institute, Warpath and Shatterstar spar; Warpath wins. This sends Shatterstar into a morose mood, as he can't help but feel that his skill is slipping to unacceptable levels.Back at Camp Hayden, Meltdown maneuvers herself atop the Blob and slips time bomb down his throat. Neither Domino nor Siryn - nor the Bob - knows if Meltdown will really detonate the thing. Siryn begins to panic, but Domino lets it all play out, as she wants to see how the new Meltdown attitude will play out in combat. Fortunately for all involved, Meltdown was bluffing, extracts the bomb almost on a whim, and reabsorbs it. She then pops the Blob's eardrums, which incapacitates him. The ladies wonder for a second what they should do with the Blob, but the Mimic shows up and whisks the Blob away while mumbling something about their employer being none-too-pleased.Elsewhere in New York, Sunspot and Caliban emerge from the sewers to meet up with the External, Gideon. X-Force is pegged for the death of the Externals. The NYPD may try to shake loose a confession, but another mutant, still roaming free, is behind this massacre!X-Force is taken in and questioned by the NYPD. They tell of the killing of the Externals by the mutant Selene. They are eventually freed.Note: Several characters only appear in flashbacks.SynopsisX-Force has been brought in by the NYPD for questioning regarding the death of Gideon, a well-known Wall Street business man. Sunspot is the first to be questioned, as he was a former associate of Gideon's. He tells the cops how X-Force was fighting the presumed immortal Externals when Selene shows up and sucks the life out of Absalom. Siryn is the next to be questioned, and she states that she showed up to the fight later. She relates that she had seen Warpath climb the building but then he appears to have vanished from Gideon's penthouse. She gets emotional at Warpath's disappearance and is excused.Shatterstar is next but he absolutely refuses to cooperate. The police call him "Benjamin" and show him that he has a police record under such name. This unnerves Shatterstar.Domino sits in the interrogation chair and infuriates the questioner by simply staring back at him. He orders her out.Meltdown enters and casually produces a small bomb. She is cocky and tells the cops about Crule's death at the hands of Selene. As soon as Crule died, Cable arrived and tried to incapacitate Selene. She had fought back but noted that Cable's lifeforce was tainted. Meltdown then relates that X-Force tried a joint attack, but Selene shrugged it off. Selene then notes to Meltdown that Cannonball is not an External - despite what X-Force had been told by Cable. Then Selene had left. Cable had passed out and X-Force experienced a lapse in memory, as the next thing they know, Cable had disappeared (Blaquesmith whisked him away) and the cops were there.Later, X-Force is released by Detective Jones. After all, a prominent mutant is onboard and the attack is likely a breakout.Sure enough, those trying to break in belong to X-Force. Cable leads a calculated charge against the Helicarrier by instructing the others to simply "make noise" by blowing stuff up. He and Caliban, on the other hand, are trying to locate an imprisoned mutant. X-Force has no problem with their noise making, though each member does seem to be going through some personal issues: Siryn worries about Warpath; Shatterstar worries that his killer instinct is waning; Meltdown reads a file that says that Sabretooth is alive.Cable and Caliban find the door they are looking for and X-Force meets them there.
