Free Comic Book Day 2022

Free Comic Book Day (FCBD) is an annual celebration of comics and pop culture at Packrat Comics and this year we celebrate on May 7. There's over 50 different Free Comic Books this year so come join the fun and find your favorites and maybe a new favorite for your friend too.

This year we are encouraging you to bring a friend to share your joy in our Best Friends Day celebration.

Greg Carter, one of our best friends, was a life long fan of comics and a huge supporter of everyone's geeky inner fandom. He was always giving away comics to friends and family trying to spread his love of comics and enthusiasm of life to everyone he met.

Every new friend was brought into the comic shop to share in his joy. Greg was at every event we hosted meeting new people and making more friends. If you've been to any Packrat event, you've met Greg.

Greg passed in December 2019 and we planned to honor him during our 2020 event. Then the pandemic and everything changed. 2022 is the first return to FCBD on the first Saturday in May so we're bringing back the full celebration and our original plans to honor of one of the comic industry's largest fans.

As a big fan of Booster Gold we are celebrating this FCBD as a best friends day to encourage our comic fans to bring a friend and share the fun and joy of comics that Greg brought to so many.

We've got a SKEETS BALL machine, scratch off to win a drone (since there's no real Skeets) tickets, Booster & Blue Beetle stand ups for pictures and we're working on more. And you don't want to miss the biggest unveiling in honor of Greg!

Life is too short - Greg taught us to share it with a friends and enjoy the cake.

We are pleased to announce that professional wrestling commentator, Tony Schiavone, will be joining Packrat Comics for a special 2 day event for Free Comic Book Day, giving you two chances to meet the legend himself.

FRIDAY, MAY 6, 2022 7-9PM

Enjoy a private event with Tony Schiavone, Friday, May 6 from 7-9pm at Packrat. This event includes pictures with Tony, autographs and his graphic novel. Limited tickets to hang with Mr. Schiavone from 7-9pm.

The Buckeye Ranch will be here to share experiences, answer questions and maybe help you become the next superhero to a child and family in need.

UNSACTIONED PRO

UNSANCTIONED PRO, Columbus' wildest pro wrestling brand will be in the house Saturday May 7 from 10am-2pm for a FREE meet & greet - including Hilliard's own THE ODY! Jack Andrewz & Chris Copeland are underground fan favorites in Unsanctioned, and even became the first ever UP tag team champions in January 2020. More wrestler appearances TBA!

CREATORS:

Dirk Manning - "Tales of Mr. Rhee" & "Nightmare World" creator & writer, Dirk Manning's haunting tales have been whispered through the halls of Image Comics, Devil's Due, Caliber Press, Aspen and Big Dog Ink. His latest collaboration with Tony Schiavone BUTTS IN SEATS: THE TONY SCHIAVONE STORY has been released and he may still have a few of the limited edition AEW live event ashcans available along with a few other vaulted items. Come get a copy and meet the legend!

Matthew Spurlock - Although his original career goals both included constructing a lightsaber and joining the rebellion against the Empire, Matthew Spurlock turned down adventure and decided to go to art school. Since earning his BFA at the Columbus College of Art and Design, Matthew made a career as a freelance illustrator and spends his time creating alternative movie posters. His posters have attracted the ire of clients such as Taco Bell, commissioning him to create a series of posters for their pop-up attraction at San Diego Comic-Con to celebrate the anniversary of the film, “Demolition Man,” starring Sylvester Stallone and Wesley Snipes. Matthew has worked with clients in a variety of industries such as local horror effects house, The Scare Factory, where he designed their current lineup of carnival-themed horror attractions. During the pandemic of 2020, when many local businesses were struggling to hold onto their patronage in order to stay afloat, Matthew instead was met with a flourish of clientele who were all eager to escape their sofas and bring their projects to life. After a long year, he now sets his sights upon the world of tabletop gaming, aspiring to get his foot into the door of Magic the Gathering.

Natalie Haines - Join us in giving Natalie Haines a warm welcome for her first appearance at Packrat. As a recent CCAD graduate, she has since become a freelance artist and her most current work can be found on the covers of Sonic the Hedgehog from IDW. We're super excited and hope you are too.

Michael Neno - Michael Neno has been writing and drawing comic books for fun and pleasure for nearly fifty years. Michael has created freelance work (writing, lettering, art, coloring and graphic design) for publishers, cartoonists and organizations as diverse as Paul Pope, Silver Comics, The Wexner Center at the Ohio State University, The Small Press and Alternative Comics Expo, Dark Horse Comics, Caliber, Airship 27, The White Eagle Theatre, Available Light Theatre, Nix Comics Quarterly, Moosepath Press, Mort Walker, Burger King, Cracked Magazine, the YMCA and many more.

Mr. Seams - The wonderful world of Mr. Seams with his customized patches and neck ties, hand towels and hoodies, geek gear has never be sew spool!

Paints & Peoples - A crafty mom who loves pop culture and making fun things.....My "Peoples" can be used for cake toppers, game pieces, desk tchotchkes (who doesn't want to proudly display the Thundercats or cast of Buffy the Vampire Slayer on their desk at work?).

Cutthroat Comics - Representing Cutthroat Comics will be owner, author, and letterer Josh Nealis. Since it's inception in 2015, Josh has written and published 13 plus books and comics under the Cutthroat Comics brand. Cutthroat Comics is based out of Findlay, Ohio and brings an offbeat attitude to the industry. Nothing is off limits and everything is fair game.

COSPLAY

ODFEL - The extremely talented and amazing Odfel will be joining us for the afternoon. Come get your picture with FCBD's cosplay of choice!

Squared Circle Cosplay - Squared Circle Cosplay a group of Ohio based wrestling cosplayers who band together to cosplay some of their favorite wrestlers and hopefully some of yours too! Get ready to get your picture with them and replica championship belts.

Central Ohio Ghostbusters - Professional Paranormal Investigations and Eliminations! With an Ecto 1 and Stay Puft, who you gonna call?

FOOD

Tortilla Street Food - Based out of Hilliard, Tortilla Street Food will be bringing their famous flavors to Packrat for FCBD.

Just Whipped Up by Maria - It's time to have your cake and eat it too. A baker and cake decorator will be bringing some of her special sweet treats for you. Every order is passionately handmade from her home to yours.

OUTDOOR ACTIVITY FUN FOR THE KIDS - OPEN TOP INFLATABLE OBSTACLE COURSE FROM 10-5PM

COSTUME CONTEST

Free Comic Book Day Costume Contest starts at 1pm and prizes to be awarded to kids 13 & under and adults 14 & up. Packrat gift cards for first, second, and third place.
